yeah, that is kind of shitty.
On the other hand, if a professional seller doesn't know what he's selling, fuck him. Nowadays, information is just a click away. I say the guy did well, even if his methods are a bit unorthodox...
The store I got them from mostly sells womens clothing, cheap jewelry, and kitchenware. They do have a small book and computer software section, which usually only seems to have uninteresting romance paperbacks, old cookbooks, and software such as Encarta and old TurboTax versions. I wasn't even in the store to look for videogames at all since they never have any, but rather to check the book section for anything interesting. The TG-16 games were on a shelf labeled "CD's", apparently on the basis that the shape of the boxes could be mistaken for CD cases. At $15 a pop, I did not have enough cash on me to purchase them, cash being the only accepted payment at this store. The only times I've ever seen anybody under the age of 40 in this store are little kids with their mothers. How on Earth the games came to be there I'll never know, but it was very clear to me that the store had no idea what they had, and that the games might have been there for some time. Even though the chances of somebody else picking up the games were slim, I still felt it wise to get them while I had the chance.

What does surprise me is that some other posters on here think what I did was unethical, when I consider it to be mere negotiating. So I pose a question: had you been there, would you have either 1) told the store clerk about the real value of the games , 2) just pay the full amount, but only get some of the games and come back later with more cash, or 3) bargain/negotiate/convince the price down to a real bargain price that would allow you to buy all of them, knowing you could easily resell them later? The sealed games were Military Madness, Bravoman, Neutopia, and Ninja Spirit; and the boxed but opened games Championship Boxing, Dead Moon, and Tiger Road, fwiw.

I passed up a bag of Sega Pico games at Salvation Army a few days ago, it was full of stuff like Busy Town and whatnot. The bag of games cost $5. Did I just make a massive mistake?

As someone who has been to many, many thrift stores in many different areas, I can't imagine one pricing something they thought were CDs at $15.00.
but it was very clear to me that the store had no idea what they had, and that the games might have been there for some time.
I frequent a thrift store that has several designated area for video games (Gaming, electronics and collectibles) and I still find games in their CD area, VHS/DVD area, cassette/8-track area, book area and many other baffling places.

I doubt this very much.

Negotiating would have been telling them they were old video games, for the uncommon TG16, and that they probably wouldn't sell to anyone for $15. This may have even worked just as well instead of convincing them that they were something that they weren't.
The objection isn't that you talked them down to a more realistic price, it's that you flat-out lied to someone's face about an item, and then posted that fact on here like it's something you're proud of doing. Many people here buy and sell via the internet, and no one likes being lied to or deceived about an items condition or status. I can't imagine why anyone would think it's okay to do that to someone else because they aren't professional video game dealers.

Anyway, enjoy your games and I don't think this somehow makes you a bad person or anything. Just watch out for karma around the next corner.

So when I go with you, there's nothing retro-game related there, but when you go by yourself, all of a sudden there's a ton of awesome cheap stuff?? Unfair!! :P

Saw a old NES as a Half Priced Books yesterday for $20. It was marked "NO A/V CABLES" on the shell, but I noticed that the shell had little to no yellowing on it, and that the there were no scuffs or marks on the system.

Brought it up the the counter for purchasing, and as I was about to walk out the door, the cashier caught up with me (uh-oh?) and gave me a bag of "cords" for the system.

1x NES system (no yellowing)
2x Original NES controllers (no yellowing)
1x Retrozone Dogbone controller
1x NES Zapper (Orange and grey model)
1x AC adapter

Needless to say, I was happy with my score until I got home. Opened the system up and there was a copy of Mario 3 inside :o
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?
