Your retro-gaming goals and resolutions for 2014

After focusing so much on Xenoblade and SMT IV lately, I'd really like to play through some of the older RPG's in my collection for 2014.
Sword of Vermilion, Breath of Fire II, Wild Arms 1/3, Defenders of Oasis, the .hack series, Lunar (PSP), my Disgaea games, and Grandia II (DC) currently come to mind.

I doubt I'll manage to beat even half of them by the year's end, but it never hurts to dream.

I've been playing through FFVI Advance. Yay. Goal met.

I'll be giving myself a (loose) budget for this year: $50 per paycheck, or $1300 total. Plus whatever I happen to make from selling games, but considering I only sell dupes and I have very few of those kicking around, I don't see it going up much higher than 14-1500. I have set the precedent, with my purchase of the 3DO USB adapter, that I'm willing to dip into my budget early and hey, if I blow all $1300 by March guess I'm gonna have a looooong end of the year

Also, I'm going to focus on making my collection prettier in a couple ways -- I'm getting UGCs done up for more and more games so as to be better shelf candy, I'm displaying everything FINALLY since I'm getting my house in order at long last, and I'm continuing to work on better video output from systems -- Component where possible, S-video if I can't, Composite if I really must. I could do RGB, but I like my 36" Trinitron too much to buy a PVM that's going to be significantly smaller, especially since the difference between RGB and YPbPr is all but indistinguishable to the average human eye (and I wear glasses so I'm not even a good eye), and if I'm going to be transcoding the SCART anyway, what's the point? Plus the system modding allows me to reduce the number of proprietary cords and get most systems down to standard RCA jacks.

Tertiary importance as far as goals/resolutions is I WOULD really like to finish off a "complete" collection (even if it's cart only) of SOME system, even if it's one of the smaller/less loved systems.

Welp... not even close on the budget, but I'm somehow not surprised. I'm going to try going back to feast or famine mode -- when I note I'm carrying a balance on my credit cards (through a combination of video games and house improvements), cut out ALL game spending until they're back to zero, then when I hit zero allow myself to buy some more.

I DO have the majority of my games in UGCs and displayed all nice-nice though, so I've made excellent progress on that. The next step will be the NES collection, once my credit card balances are at zero, because I'll be doing Bit Boxes for those, and 180+ Bit Boxes are going to add up.

My US Virtual Boy collection, all whopping 14 games, has been completed!!

And I do continue to make progress on casing my games, but that's a neverending process since I keep buying more games too.

The budget though? Yeah... about that.... loooooooooong gone.

In no particular order:

1. Play through the rest of the Wario Land series (I only need to beat Wario Land (VB) and Wario Land: Shake It! (Wii).)

2. Start a series, and play though all of the games in it (There are some recent series - such as Devil May Cry, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, etc. - that I have never touched. I would like to pick one and play through all of the games in one of those series in chronological order.)

3. Finally push through both Nectaris: Military Madness (PS1) and Return Fire (PS1) (I respect both game immensely - and I have sunk hours into each one - I just do not have the will power to finish them, however.)

4. Finish collecting at least one sub-set of 2600 games (I suspect I will acquire the rest of the Activision "standard label" games at some point this year.)

5. Acquire a PSP and mod it

6. Acquire an Atari 7800

7. Finish off one of my collections (I only need to 21 10 15 games to complete my N64 collection and 41 43 38 36 games to finish off my Xbox collection. None of the games I require are particularly expensive; so, I suspect that - with a few internet purchaes - I can finish off one or the other before the end of the year.)

8. Continue to amass PS3 and Wii games (It is currently a great time to be buying used games for those systems.)

9. "Complete" all of the games in my collection that missing their manuals (15 13 games in my collection are missing their manuals, and it is driving me CRAZY!)

10. Photograph my collection and post the pictures to the forums (For most of my collection, this will not be that hard. I just need to do it.)

11. Grab all of the game I want from PSN and WiiWare store while they are still available

12. Play through all of the non-RPG games in one or more of my collections (This is a long-shot, but I do not think it would be that difficult for me to play through all of the non-RPG games in my 3DS, Gameboy, or Wii collections.)

Perhaps 'twas coincidence, perhaps fate...but I too have been playing my 7800 this morning for the first time in a while!

So...PS1 longbox games, 7800 games,...are you going to dive into the 32X seriously next?

I just hooked up my 7800 for the first time in ages last night. Played some Xevious. I do indeed like this console as well.

I played Pole Position II, Xenophobe, and a wide array 2600 games (Adventure, Yar's Revenge, etc.). I am going to pull a few games down from the attic in a minute, however.

So...PS1 longbox games, 7800 games,...are you going to dive into the 32X seriously next?

I've considered it...

I am going for complete sets on the following systems:

* 5200 (Only 42 games to go!)
* 7800 (Only 27 games to go!)
* Arcadia 2001 (Only 5 games to go!)
* Nintendo Entertainment System (Only 92 games to go!)
* PlayStation Longboxes (Only 35 games to go!)
* Sega Master System (Only 33 games to go!)

The NES set will be the most expensive, but tracking down the last few games I need for the Arcadia 2001 will be the most difficult (especially since I only collect CIB games for that system).
