Aren't those almost always made by grown adults who have an attachment/fondness for the 'old' Lego mentality though? "Wouldn't it be awesome to make X out of Legos?". Nowadays you don't really have to dream of what Harry Potter's world or whatever would look like. You can buy it for $79.99

Sure, a lot of those things are built by adults. It took me all of 2 seconds to find this young fellow showing off his builds. Sure they might not be holy crap level creations yet, but he obviously enjoys making his own stuff and will make more elaborate things as time goes on.

Meh lego has not lost its creativity. Sure there are a lot more specialized parts compared to the 80s and 90s stuff, but that really isn't such a bad thing as it gives you more options if you have those weird parts to make something very interesting. I started buying Lego again earlier this year kind of fed up where games have gone because they're quiet, relaxing, work your mind a bit even following the book and they're just fun to do and won't break the bank. Recently I snapped up 3 good sized bags of them for $20 and it's a mix of most of a Chima Earth Dragon, some yellow boat craft perhaps and some other randomness. Months earlier I found like 80% of a rescue chopper too for a buck. There are random sets I pick up not for theme but really just based on sales (got the fire truck for 40% off on the weekend) and it's just fun. I've got between the sets and loose stuff thousands of parts already along with a couple half and one full sized platform with a river on it (out of a wild west set.)

If you got time, you're bored, and just want to go random on things it's a great thing to have and a big box of parts lets you go wild. Even some sets like the Creator stuff allows for 3 differing manuals which I've got a few sets for and some are downright slow and taxing to put together like the Mountain Cabin I have due to all the single pieces.

A neat thing one could do since I have so much randomness is to just toss a few sets together and go nuts if not just shake out whatever is possible from my random box of parts and platforms. I'm no expert and I never will devote time to making a space ship fleet or whatever, but I'm happy randomly throwing crap together to see what sticks. I did this a few weeks ago and made out of the chopper parts a powerboat of sorts that I redid some and made a gyrocopter out of it in the end.

I got lucky 2 weekends ago and hit a nice little paydirt find of new boxed retired lego sets. I got a Castle set, and then 3 of the Pharaohs Quest builds (the tiny one, the big snake, and the biggie sphinx.) Along with that same time, had a trade come in off a SNES game I had for a big box of legos which had a lot of the Pyramid set from that series and 2 of its baseplates along with 9 minifigs from those with accessories, dozen scorpions, 8~ snakes , and the other part of that is in the mail now with cleopatra, more building bits, then randomly 4 ostrich, a genie/lamp, radioactive guy and a robot. Then this last weekend I ended up getting the original Lego Shuttle from 90 complete w/booklet and in the mail the retired Lego Tie Advanced boxed up with vader that should arrive today.

I've been more and more enjoying having hours go into doing these and displaying them and doing pinball, kindle and my 3DS lately than going into gaming on the whole as the whole price thing on old stuff just turned me off of it.

If I ever decide I want to even enter a city that large it's on my list (both stores.)

Having to head back west for over a week in a few months, strongly at the top of that list is the Legoland theme park so my 3 year old can have her mind blown and I'll check out the store there on site of course.

Now if I could just find a cheaper price on those 2 indiana jones last crusade sets I don't have (2 planes, venice) to go with my motorbike one. I don't want to get a full set, but it would be nice to get a nice subset of the 3.

That's a mighty fine ship, I still have its predecessor but sadly missed out on the Imperial Flagship while it was "reasonably" priced. I want an imperial ship to complement the pirate one.. I have one from the early 90s but missing many parts so I will never assemble it again.
