Not entirely, but it's not, as it seems to me, as prevalent as the bishonen style. It seems that everyone is portrayed very girlish, while that's hardly typical to any sort of reality. But then again, in Japan 9 year old girls routinely save the world, so...
Oh, come on. In which reality do spandex-wearing masked heroes abound?

Since I have noticed the thread has a wrpg vs jrpg overtone (which discussions about jrpgs tend to go nowadays)

this picture pretty much sums it up to me

I love both genre of rpg, but there has been a steady decline in mainstream jrpgs that are not on a handheld in the US. All the while wrpgs are picking up steam... There is a correlation between the 2.

as it was said before its the market...

If you're asking whether America or Japan is to blame for the lack of JRPGs, then I don't think either of those are the answer to that. The market right now just isn't really interested in the old style JRPGs. So if anybody, blame the consumers.
Pretty much end of thread in my opinion

Ugh. Consumers are a fickle lot; popular trends can appear just as suddenly as they disappear. One day it's Pokèmon, the other day it's Dragon Age. Soon, RPGs will go back to being dice rolling in the forest with wooden cutlasses.

I doubt it. That would be like people going back to analog broadcasting, or manual can openers. Maybe the classic RPG mechanics and stylings will come back, but it'll be as a Facebook game or something.

While I was just being snide, old RPGs as Facebook games... seems totally plausible. I mean, games like Final Fantasy Adventure / Seiken Densetsu have been on the Mobile Phone market in Japan for years now.

(And I still use manual can openers! I have way too many Swiss Army Knives, even a P38...)
