If you were firing your spread gun down down a pulsing pink tunnel, then you are almost at the climax.

(That sounds kind of dirty, doesn't it...oh well, it's true.)

EDIT: Made it a little dirtier.

So playing FF1 and I think im in the stage where you get the second crystal.

So there's this part where I'm in a vast and empty desert (3rd-4th floor of a dungeon), and one of the random creep that spawn are these things called Abyss Worms or something. These guys one shot all of my characters except my fighter, and none of my spells seem to be able to hit them :|. I have a feeling that people who have played FF1 probably remember him well. :|

Don't think I made it that far. I kept dying at this part where I would try to jump over a pitfall and a giant flame from the ceiling would murk me in mid air >: \

Nope. You are not there yet. To your credit, however, the "flame" stage is the most difficult in the game (in my opinion at least). The final level is much, much easier. (PRO-TIP: You can - and must - jump over the robot at the end of the stage. Keep pushing, and I am confident that you will conquer Contra soon.)

I put in a first pass at Aladdin. Made it to Escape from the Cave of Wonders level pretty easily, then drained a ton of lives and a continue on it. Got a lot of lives back in the carpet riding section, only to make it 3/4 of the way through Genie's lamp, and drain another continue. (Damn disappearing/reappearing hands!) As if that weren't bad enough, I hit a checkpoint glitch after dying once, and lost every single life I had left falling off the stage immediately as I spawned at the checkpoint. Game Over, man.

I feel armed with enough knowledge now that I can probably make it through the game next I pop it in. I have to say that while I generally enjoy the game, the controls are a little muddy, and I really hate the sliding Al does at times after coming to a 'stop.' Also, the hit detection is kinda--well, it's fucking awful. It doesn't really break the game at all, but it's really bad. Level design, and pacing are pretty good, though. Music is great, and I enjoy the Donkey Kong parodying boss battle on Level 3. (Boss battles are kind of a joke so far, though.)

Well, got past the desert in FF1, now I have to fight the earth boss (the enchida or something, in before someone post a picture of knuckles). He whooped my ass....

Around the time you posted this I made a break through. Got up to the final boss of the level you're talking about, and yeah I managed to jump over him. He still killed me and I got game over :(.

This fire level is pretty rough, I play Contra only about once a day, may have to try to sit down for a while in order to get through this level with out losing a life. Good to hear the levels after are easier lol, got worried when I found out there were two more.

27 hours in. I'm really gonna miss this game when its over.

I'm not sure of your exact progress, but you should still have about the best part of the entire game ahead of you.

Also, yes. The Mastermune is awesome, but it unfortunately doesn't carry over to new game+. If you're thinking of going into NG+ at all, I'd recommend making a Rainbow Swallow. And, yeah Leah is pretty cute, but no one beats Harley.
That's good to know. :D

I can tell you exactly that I am on disc 2, but I stopped immediately after changing the disc. I haven't played in 2 days either, so that's where I'm sitting.

I don't know if I'm going to do NG+. I'm not real interested in getting the characters I missed to be honest (who cares about freakin' Korcha? Not I). Of course, NG+ is always worth it just to put an overpowered smack down on everybody. Maybe one day. I probably will try to get a Rainbow Swallow though, just in case. Thanks for the heads up on the Mastermune not carrying over.

And for the record, I love Harle too! Broke my heart when she left the party.

About seven hours into Chrono Trigger (fighting Ozzie in Magus's Castle) and hope to finish up by Monday night. The game is just as great as I remember it, but the story and characters are the icing on the cake. Oh Frog, how I love thee!

Sure, don't you do that with your favorites too? The last time I played it was in 2005, so I'm definitely due to play it again, but I have tons of games I regularly play through every few years or so.

^The point of the thread is to show some love to classic games you've never played through before; not to try to beat ten games over the summer.
CFFJR wrote:And for the record, I love Harle too! Broke my heart when she left the party.
Oh man, no kidding. I spent a lot of time working on a save where Harle is available at the end of the game. I figured you were just before the giant Triangle. From about that point on is just masterclass, I think.

Beat Aladdin. (Why does the HVGN think this game is hard?) I loaded up on a stupid number of continues this time, but really didn't need many more lives than I had the first time. Heartbreak of heartbreaks: Turns out I was 99.9% of the way through the lamp level, before I had to use that second continue. Overall, a pretty fun game. I liked it enough to think about replaying some time (what's different about hard mode?) but I don't think it's quite as great as some might feel it is.

Update to the list:
1. Aladdin (GEN)
2. Blaster Master (NES)
3. Panzer Dragoon (SS)
4. Dragon Quest 1 & 2 (SFC) -final dungeon of DQII
5. Rocket Knight Adventures (GEN)
6. Grandia (SS)
7. Resident Evil 2 (DC)
8. Dynamite Deka (SS)
9. Phantasy Star II (MD)
10. Densetsu no Ogre Battle (SS)
Thinking of trading out one of these for Seiken Densetsu 2; Maybe Rocket Knight, or PD, since I've gotten pretty far in both of those games before.
