Dust: An Elysian Tail - 29 out of 30 achievements (I need to beat one of the higher difficulties for that last one)
So I beat the game, found and collected everything, did all the side quests, fully explored every map, four starred all of the challenge rooms, got every achievement but one, and maxed out my levels. I did it all without a guide, a faq, or any outside help too.
This is now my favorite Xbox Live Arcade title, and one of my favorite 2D games of all time. The game is absolute perfection. This is one of the most polished games I have ever played. It is refined in every way possible. It delivers on EVERY level from graphics, music, gameplay, and replay value. It's got great beat 'em up gameplay, great platforming, lots of exploration, and tons of cool little surprises I won't spoil. It's an excellently put together metroidvania game with more than enough content to justify the 15 dollar price tag. In fact, I clocked in a little over 20 hours to beat it AND do every optional thing in the game. That's about half the playtime you'd expect from 50-60 dollar rpg. Plus, it's got 30 achievements! That's 400 points! Quite a lot for an XBLA game
The story is excellent. On the surface, it looks and sounds like a kid's cartoon, but it actually hits on some serious adult themes and the game is full of great jokes - many of which are aimed squarely at gamers. The game is also full of references and tributes to other great games, and the graphics are Vanillaware quality. This is easily one of the most gorgeous looking Xbox Live Arcade games ever made. The combat is some of the best I have ever seen in a metroidvania style game. It's flashy, fast paced, over the top, and awesome. Plus, it emphasizes finesse, something I wish more games did these days. It's all about racking up huge combos, but if you take a hit you lose your combo, which means less experience points.
All of this was put together by one guy, except for the music. Everything else was put together by Dean Dodrill. All I can say is that this guy is absolutely amazing. Dust: An Elysian Tail is a MUST PLAY game if you like 2D side scrollers, metroidvania games, or the beautiful art style of Vanillaware games.
