Whoa, whoa, whoa. Thief is a great job to start the game with! Not necessarily as a job to use regularly, but think of all the special items you can be stealing from the very first dungeon! Yes, it's more utility and should only be used in certain circumstances where you want an item or really, really need money.alienjesus wrote:Playing through Final Fantasy V for this years 4 Job Fiesta. My first job was Thief.
Thief is possibly the worst job to get at the start (White Mage is a pain too, but at leats it stays useful throughout the game). I only had two knives to get through the first dungeon (leaving me with two unarmed characters), they take loads of damage like a mage, but can't dish out much damage or healing either. I'm just past Siren now, on my way to the next town (which sells daggers at least) and then off to get my water crystal job.
Here's my ranking of how useful the water crystal jobs will be to me:
1. Summoner - Only remaining decent magic caster job, so it'll be handiest in the long run so I'm not all physical
2. Mystic Knight - Stupidly powerful, actually hits quite hard with a sword, can add elements to swords, so kinda makes up for no magic power.
3. Time Mage - Awesome magic abilities, but not really much attack magic.
4. Red Mage - Enough magic to power through the first world, but then it's really gonna suck for the rest of the game.
5. Berserker - I can't control it, it only adds more physical power and it's a liability in several places throughout the game. At least it can use some thief abilities I guess![]()
Hoping for any of the first 3. The last two will make things difficult.
That said, yeah, I never much cared for Red Mage either. Berserker's not bad for handling the trash though.
