Thief is possibly the worst job to get at the start (White Mage is a pain too, but at leats it stays useful throughout the game). I only had two knives to get through the first dungeon (leaving me with two unarmed characters), they take loads of damage like a mage, but can't dish out much damage or healing either. I'm just past Siren now, on my way to the next town (which sells daggers at least) and then off to get my water crystal job.

Here's my ranking of how useful the water crystal jobs will be to me:

1. Summoner - Only remaining decent magic caster job, so it'll be handiest in the long run so I'm not all physical
2. Mystic Knight - Stupidly powerful, actually hits quite hard with a sword, can add elements to swords, so kinda makes up for no magic power.
3. Time Mage - Awesome magic abilities, but not really much attack magic.
4. Red Mage - Enough magic to power through the first world, but then it's really gonna suck for the rest of the game.
5. Berserker - I can't control it, it only adds more physical power and it's a liability in several places throughout the game. At least it can use some thief abilities I guess

Hoping for any of the first 3. The last two will make things difficult.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Thief is a great job to start the game with! Not necessarily as a job to use regularly, but think of all the special items you can be stealing from the very first dungeon! Yes, it's more utility and should only be used in certain circumstances where you want an item or really, really need money.

That said, yeah, I never much cared for Red Mage either. Berserker's not bad for handling the trash though.

Guess which job I got:

@Ack: Thief is a fantastic job to start the game with if you have one or two. It's not so hot when you have 4. As part of the Four Job Fiesta rules, that's exactly what I had to do.

There are only two knives available before the first dungeon, so two of your guys are unarmed. You have to stay in the front row to do damage, but you have crappy defence. You have no form of healing outside of crappy 50hp potions (when some enemies do more than that to you with a single attack), you can't boost your defences or cause status effects in any way, and you have no useful battles skills to make use of (Flee is the only one really).

And stealing sounds nice, but most early game enemies only have tonics, if they have anything at all. And in the time it takes to steal them, I've normally needed to use about 4 anyway.

I was REALLY hoping for a magic job at this crystal. Literally any job but the one I got

Oh, that's what a 4 job fiesta is. Ok, I understand your complaint now.

Yeah, I can only use one job per crystal which is randomly chosen. And I must have at least one person in my party who is each job given at all times.

So from the wind crystal to the water crystal I had to use 4 thieves. From water to fire, I can have thieves and berserkers, as long as I have at least one of each. From fire I have to have 3 jobs in my party plus one guy who can be any of those 3, and when I reach the earth crystal I have to have one of each of the 4 jobs at all times.

I can mix and match them, just so long as one person in the team is each job at all times. So later I can give my berserker the thief ability to make him not so stupidly slow, and my thief the berserkers equip axes to make him not so stupidly weak.

I really wanted to like the Red Mage myself, but yeah with my GBA replay of FFV I didn't even really bother with them. Early on I focused a lot on Monk/Barehanded mixed in with my magic users, worked pretty well.

I ended up getting a Geomancer for job 3. So I kinda have magic now.

It doesn;t count as magic when triggering enemy counter attacks though, so I'm still technically all physical.

If she's at the same support level as her competition, Sumia wins.
Though I'm kind of curious if Chrom's daughter ever becomes a romantic option. She could give Cordy some competition for my affections. She's pretty badass. I want to recruit her damnit!
She does, but only for the Avatar. The Avatar can marry anyone in the game.
I paired Sumia with Frederick. I LOVE the dialog between Chrom, Olivia and Lissa. It's like the game lampshades how bizarre it is for Chrom and Olivia to have gotten married when they barely knew each other

I like that pairing. Olivia's my third favorite girl and she seems more princess-like than Sumia.

So I got Henry and Lucina now. Henry is a hilarious character. His support conversations are great. His A support conversation with Mirabelle is HILARIOUS. I've never seen any of the girls turn beat red the way she does in that conversation. Henry's got game :D He's FAR more entertaining than Tharja, even though they are similar characters. Holy crap at Lucina's Aether ability! Like I needed to break the game more with my Donnel and Avatar already murdering everyone for the past two maps. I've been watching Donnel abuse Sol in every fight and Lucina can do that AND luna back to back!? That's awesome!

So now I gotta choose. Lucina or Cordelia for my avatar. Damn, tough choice. They're essentially both the perfect woman. Maybe I'll just keep playing and put off a marriage choice for as long as I can

Red Mage exists to give dual casting to your other casters.

The soul cannon battle is really tough with a thief, thief, geomancer & berserker party.

I can't block old, I can't reliably heal, I can't deal much damage (thieves do about 200 damage each, berserker can deal 500 but attacks infrequently, & it's immune to my geomancy.

It's gonna take about 12-14 cycles of all characters attacking to take it out, but it kills me a lot faster than that :?

Think I'm going to have to grind 100000 gold for two angel rings to block old and then hope for some good luck.
