It ultimately comes down to what you want out of your VGA accessory. But both provide something special that is unique to each and cannot be found with any other VGA accessory out there (take it from a guy who own the majority of commercial DC VGA cables).

Cabou VGA cables are designed to meet your specific needs and more importantly to comply with just about any display/monitor/TV configuration out there for optimum compatibility right from the get go. As such, you exit any additional audio/video cables which you usually need with just about any version of the DC VGA peripheral. The Cabou variant is basically built with all the additional bells and whistles with meticulous craftsmanship.

I do NOT own a HANZO... Yet. But i do own its predecessor which is known as KURO. But I've followed the former's design right from the beginning and even provided some tiny feedback to its creator after receiving KURO to help realize its successor. HAZNO is essentially designed to operate like a standard DC VGA box, meaning you will need the separate VGA cable, Audio AUX cable etc. Keep that in mind. The biggest benefit to HANZO is its built in Scan Line generator which is a pretty awesome feature which may appeal to a particular group of DC gamers.

Whichever you opt for. You really can't go wrong with either.

Hope this answers your question.

I guess I just can't imagine having the sound and VGA cables built in being more appealing to anyone than having the option to switch between 15/31 khz and add scanlines. I mean, VGA and AUX cables are literally pennies from places like Monoprice. Most people already have them lying around. But, to each his own. Not trying to attack anyone's preference. I would just advise people to check out the Hanzo before they make their decision:

Even if you don't care about that, the built in frequency switcher is great for games that don't support VGA. The VGA boxes from the DC heyday require you to have an S-Video (or something similar) port for those games. The Hanzo does it all through VGA.

As long as your screen accepts 15kHz through VGA that is.

Which I think is not always the case.

It is a nice feature though.

Right here good sir. To me it's pretty sweet feature to guy like me who has multiple VGA cables which all require their own additional cables. Cabous are great for travel purposes and more importantly, for complicated gaming setups with little hardware space and/or that require significant cable length or a setup the where pesky box can get in the way (a lot of these box type VGA devices have a VERY short DC cable connection with the exception of the excellent Performance model). The scan Line generator is great, but not a major feature especially to those that already own an external SLG (I purchased my external model from beharious himself and love that I can use it on all my other DC VGA boxes).
How could I forget the the awesome 15/31 KHz swtich feature. Its is wonderful. But like elma has pointed out

I have a large variety of HD displays, of which none will accept a low frequency (KURO was also built with this feature and was the major reason for its purchase). So there you have it. As I've said earlier, it all depends on what you want out of the device and each respective accessory provides something special.

From my Panasonic TC-42PX14 manual:

http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/TC42PX14.PDF

"PC Input Terminals Connection: Computer signals which can be input are those with a horizontal frequency of 15 to 110 kHz and vertical scanning frequency of 48 to 120 kHz.)

And yet in another spot:

"PC signals: VGA, SVGA, XGA, WXGA, SXGA. Horizontal scanning frequency 31-69 kHz. Vertical scanning frequency 59-86 kHz."

So the information seems to conflict. Guess I'll find out when the Hanzo arrives.

I need a good VGA for my Dreamcast*. taking some recommendations.

Are the ones with the converter boxes, like these:

Better than the ones with just the Cables, like these?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SEGA-Dreamc ... 35c98f65be

I'm really dumb when it comes to display types and cords, but i am guessing the ones with just the cable (no convertor box) are for Dreamcast with VGA mods and the ones with boxes are for all dreamcast?

I am planning to use VGA straight to my TV. No PC or Computer. Just an HDTV with a VGA.

does the brand make a difference at all, honestly? Or for the most part, will they pretty much all display the same? if they are all pretty much the same, I would like to buy the cheapest one.
