It'll quickly be dated when the other new consoles roll out.
I'm one of those people that feel that as long as the games are of good quality - who cares..? Graphics only take a game so far.
And I think we passed the age of "a game's success depends on how well it looks" back in the Dreamcast/PS2/XBox/Gamecube era..

While I do agree with that, if a game looks bad, it won't garner attention.
In fact, the fancier your game looks, the less of a chance a company will
totally eat it. This has been true since the Intellivision days, and a lot of their early games were garbage. (But good looking garbage... that sold well enough to fund the better playing stuff.)

FZero GX on the Gamecube looks better than about 85% of the current Wii lineup.. (without emulation, better cables, modern PC magic tricks.)
Also, (and it's just my personal opinion for this example, so take this as you will,) but Heavy Rain and Alan Wake both put me to sleep.. Meanwhile, I've sunk at least 100 hours into Super Meat Boy, Castle Crashers, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Geometry Wars..

That's all well said and done, but as you said it's YOUR opinion. Does it matter on this forum? Yes. Does it matter to Robby Kottick? Nope....

BTW am I the only one who thinks Nintendo should REALLY change the name of the console? I mean Nintendo is a gaming brand name by itself (unlike Microsoft and Sony when you really think Xbox and Playstation) now so I think it could released the Nintendo "Bro" and people will understand that it's the NEW Wii, but Wii U just sounds like a minor upgrade. I'm thinking they are going to be having the same problem with public perception they had with the 3DS.

The name is stupid. It's just stupid. I understand that it looks very similar to the Wii, but I think everyone agrees it's a terrible name to give it. I mean at least the 3DS makes some sense. But the reasoning that they gave for Wii U was probably pulled out of their ass. But then again, when you've sold 90 million units, riding the brand name can't hurt...

Yeah, it's kind of unfortunate though. It seems to work for most other companies, so I guess its probably a smart move. Still, I kind of like 'new' names, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Wii... I was hoping for something a little more original than "Wii U" but hey, like with every new console, it's just a name.
Happens every time. In the end, I think "Wii" was a better name than "Revolution". Who knows, maybe the name will change again before launch.
I really wish the Wii U would up-scale Wii games though, it's a real bummer it isn't going to.

Yeah but I'm afraid it will work against them if people can't tell that's it's something completely new, other than the controller. Numbers help people understand that.....except if they are on the front and people think it only adds a 3D screen

Joke is on you since 3ds has sold better than the original DS in the same timespan.
