Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Here's the thing about running a 3D game on a better piece of hardware. You can use the same model in a better resolution and it'll look nicer. Take Quake 2. First run it at 640x480, then run it at something big like 1600x1200. You'll see a huge increase in the quality of the models even though you're using the same source.

I'm speaking more along the lines of what Dolphin does with PC hardware. Other upscaling options can't compete. And seeing as how Dolphin is running the software just like the Wii would, but dealing with the graphics a different way, it would be super easy (hard?) for them to build the Wii-U to accomplish this.

(this almost breathes new life into these games!)
I really really hope the Wii U does this kind of upscaling for Wii games, even if Nintendo has said that it won't. It's always possible they could change it. Maybe hackers will be able to do it.

My Faroudja looks very similar. Stills look great, but when you move horizontally across the sky you can see lines. You can also see lines on vertical wash outs. Also tried an Anchor Bay upscaler, which produced the same lines, but it didn't look as good. I'm not denying PC solutions may be better though. I'm just saying I think the lines are in the signal

True they are a household name, but for PCs not for gaming. I dont think Microsoft will ever get out of their PC stigmata. They are no where near as imbedded into the general populace as Nintendo. Mario is an icon and Pikachu is damn near a demigod.

It seems to me that it's just simple hardware. I have PC specs that are about 3 to 4 years old. I can run these games at 1080p at full frame rates and they look great. Seeing what the 360 does with it's old hardware is amazing.
If Nintendo could build the Wii-U as a dedicated machine to do the things that Dolphin is doing (while your computer is doing so many other things like running Windows) then it seems like the hardware part of the equation is definitely feasible. In my own mind anyway. Obviously this is all just speculation at this point. No harm was ever had in trying to predict the future. LOL.

One thing that I will hand Nintendo on a silver platter is their 1st party licenses. I don't think any other company can compete (and that's not putting it mildly.)
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
So it appears that after CES 2012, new rumors abound regarding the Wii-U. All of the press releases state that the Wii-U is in fact MORE powerful than the current generation consoles. (Specifically siting the Xbox 360)
Seeing as how the Microsoft and Sony swear that they will not show anything at this year's E3, that pushes the releases of their next consoles back at least another year.
So, if the Wii-U is as powerful as they say, then we might actually see a console that can top the other 2. It remains to be seen, but this might turn out differently than I had originally thought. I for one hope that is the case. An awesome Nintendo console? Who would've thunk it? LOL. I'm going to be honest, I'm a bit more excited about the prospect now.

I could see this going one of two ways. Get a head start with better hardware, magically pull off the SNES era again. Or, get a good start, but lag off when the new consoles come in.

I would hope that the Wii-U is more powerful than tech that came out 6 or 7 years ago. Whatever they have in it will almost certainly be more powerful than what is out now, but it will almost certainly be less powerful than whatever Sony and MS put in their next consoles.

Seriously, that just cracks me up.
It'll quickly be dated when the other new consoles roll out.
