Not going to add it to my list, but I beat my wife...

Let me re-word that. I bested my wife (and two ai players) at Anticipation last night on "difficult".

Games Beaten in 2012 = 32
1/21 To the Moon (PC)
2/28 Kentucky Route Zero: Act I (PC)
3/12 The King of the Wood (PC)
3/14 The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (PC)

Games Beaten = 5

3/17 The Darkness 2 (PC)

Have you played the original game, The Darkness? That was a great little under-the-radar game from Starbreeze Studios. You know maker of that other, awesome under-the-radar game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay? Still no? Well you really should play both of those games, they're awesome! This game is not made by Starbreeze Studios, but rather Digital Extremes and it doesn't suffer from the tranistion, in my opinion. This is a first-person shooter game, with an interesting twist: you have giant, tentacle arms (the Darkness) that you manipulate along with your FPS style game-play. This game is over-the-top gruesome and the Darkness is an awesome gameplay element to a more typical FPS. The story is well done (even if a tad predictable) and voice acting is top-notch. Well worth the $15 or so it goes for these days.

3/20 Persona 4: The Golden (Vita)

Yes my friends, I've finally bested this monsterous (in length) JRPG. Clocking in at 101 hours and 44 minutes, this is the longest I've spent playing a handheld game and nearly the longest I've played any game (Oblivion claims that at 125 hours or maybe WoW, not sure how much time I had in that, but I doubt it was that much). Such an excellent JRPG, the social links are almost all interesting and I loved the overall story arc and how it played out. The voice actors they got for the characters do a great job in giving them unique personalities and just some laugh out loud moments. I got really addicted to the fusing demons and finding weakness turn-based gameplay, this is my first SMT or SMT-like game and now I'm really eyeing P3P, especially since it is $10 right now.

I have been recommended this game by one of my coworkers. She convinced me some time ago to play through the first, and I had a blast, so I've been interested in finding the sequel, though I haven't been actively looking. I should really get around to check this out.

You definitely should! I've seen it as low as $10 and I'd say it's well worth the price. The gameplay differs some from the first game and the art-style is different as well. In the first one, if I remember correctly, you had several types of minions, whereas this one is just one type and you don't summon him, he's just there automatically. You have a skill tree to work through to better your abilities and I think overall they've tightened up the gameplay from the first. Story is more focused on The Darkness then the first one, which was mostly about Jackie's mafia ties and him taking over the family.

Dead Space 3 (PS3)
The game keeps the great atmosphere with both the parts on the ships feeling like Dead Space 1, and the new ice planet parts feeling like The Thing. However, with the addition of Co-op, weapon crafting and universal ammo all the tension is gone. Necro's just bum rush you in pretty much every room.

The story seems to be a natural progression of the plot, but since like Dead Space 2, the 3rd game starts some time after the events of the previous game, it feels like we are missing some important details. Like how the Unitologists have gained so much power and influence. As for Issacs relationships with the other characters, that plays out like some highschool drama. I also hated that they
killed off Ellie only to have her magically survive a situation that was unsurvivable.

Overall disappointing, but still a decent game and I still will buy Dead Space 4. I do like they have been experimenting with each new game (a lightgun game, multiplayer in 2, co-op in 3). Its just that this particular experiment didn't work that well.

Earthworm Jim HD (PSN)
I've never played the original but I very much liked the graphics and style that this game had. However, the controls felt really loose, so I ended up dieing a lot due to them. Not sure if that is the case in the original.

And while the game was fun, I don't understand why this got a HD remake over many other games. Seems like a B tier game at best.

Tank Battles (PSN)
I am sure you are all familar with Tank on the atari (on the Combat cart), even if you haven't played it you at least know what its like. This is pretty much a modern take/clone of that concept. Its also frustratingly hard. Not worth your time.

Warp (PSN)
Honestly don't really remember much about this. I guess it was okay as it didn't leave an impression of being bad.

Critter Crunch (PSN)
God damn amazing puzzle game. The last few levels can seem unfairly hard but overall this game is amazing. It oozes charm, polish and style. It controls well, continues to add interesting mechanics and has hundreds of levels for tons of replayability. I will definately play this one again.

Donkey Kong (Gameboy)
I have distinct memories of loving this game as a child. But apparently I sucked at video games as a child because I don't remember ever getting past the forest world. As for this playthrough, I only ended up having difficulty on 2 levels. One in world 8 and the final boss level in world 9.

I did fall in love with this game all over again though. And it makes me sad that we never saw another game like this one.

LittleBigPlanet Karting (PSN)
Its got the classic Little Big Planet style and is a compotent karting game. The soundtrack is great, as always. It does have two major problems though. The weapons are horribly unbalanced, but thankfully not in a game destroying way. And the online play is horribly broken and buggy.

If you got some friends to play this locally with it can be a blast, but I keep hearing that the new Sonic karting game is better, so maybe just go with that instead.

Tales From Space: Mutant Blob Attack (PSVita)
A very fun little platformer. If you have a Vita I urge you to check it out. its got charm, its got solid controls. Its got pretty good variety in terms of level design. And its cheap.

Sound Shapes: Car Mini Album DLC(PSN)
Very very short. Dissappointingly so, but considering it only cost 2 bucks Im not upset. Still good to see them continuing to support this game. I do hope we get some full sized albums later on though.

Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC (PS3)
This is what Dead Space 3 should have been like all the way through. Aside from them re-using a lot of assets and being fairly short, it was a great addition. The story picks up right after the end of the main game and sees Issac and Carver attempting escape with plenty of wacko Unitoligists trying to get in the way. The atmosphere and tension is spot on. Some might say it isn't worth the 10 bucks, due to its length, but I didn't mind at all. I enjoyed this a lot and it has me excited for the next game.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game (PSN)
This is like the 6 or 7th times I have played through this game now. This time I did it with Wallace as the new DLC for him just released. They outsourced his inclusion to a different developer and as a result he is implemented in a sloppy way. But I still had a blast.

23. Little Inferno Wii U Download *NEW*

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble was an enjoyable enough game, but with a few signifivant flaws. Using an embedded tilt sensor in the cartidge, the goal was to roll kirby around the courses avoiding enemies, navigating obstacles and avoiding falling off the edge to get to the goal. The tilt sensor was pretty accurate considering it's over 10 years old, and it has a nice dead zone in the centre so that holding kirby still on the spot isnt too hard to do. The game looks lovely and must be one of the most colourful games on the system, and has a decent soundtrack of simple remixes of old kirby themes with a few nice but ultimately forgettable new tracks thrown in for good measure. Maybe they used all the file space for the surprisingly clear 'KIRBY TILT AND TUMBLE' voice at the title screen  . There were two issues that brought the game down though, and the first and most blatant of these is the system it's on - the Game Boy Colour screen is a pain in the neck to see, and trying to get enough light on it when you're constantly tilting it about is even worse. Once I found a decent spot with a very bright desk lamp pointed right over the game boy it was fun, but it wasnt especially convenient, comfortable or practical. The game won;t work on GBA SP as the upside-down cartridge position reverse the controls, the original GBA screen is even darker, and there are obvious flaws with the GB Player for Gamecube. I have heard that you can put the game in an action replay to fix the issue though - no codes needed, it just serves to invert the cartridge again. The other major issue was the jump controls - rather than map them to a button press, they chose to make you perform it by flicking the GBC upwards. It's neither accurate nor easy to control, and even though it's rarely necessary, it still causes too many unnecessary deaths. Had I played this game any time before 2006, I'm sure I would've loved it more, but as is, I've played better examples of the genre on my Wii (like Kororinpa), and would say this one is more of a curiosity than a must have.

Little Inferno is a difficult game to rate - to be honest, it's barely a game at all. You buy stuff in-game from a catalogue, touch it to set if on fire, pick up the resulting coins and repeat, unlocking new stuff to burn as you go. Burning certain items together will get you a combo, which is the only real objective of the game - for example burning a pirate toy and a boat toy gets you one, or burning a tv and some corn (to make popcorn) gets you a 'movie night' combo. As you unlock more stuff you'll recieve letters from a couple of other characters in game; these are interesting and funny, and help set the games slightly macabre tone. This is further emphasises by the odd design off the burnable stuff, plus some often dark reactions when set on fire - a toy school bus drives around with the sound of screaming children for example. I was going to say this game was just an overpriced novelty, and I probably still would (even though I bought it at half price), but the ending sequence was quite interesting and definitely kicked the game up a notch for me. Spoilers ahead - although less about story, and more about mechanics.

When you find the combo needed to beat the game, which is hinted to you as you progress, your house burns down, and you wander the city streets in a kind of ultra-streamlined adventure game. You get to visit many of the characters you recieved letters from and get into some dialogue with employees of the ever-present Tomorrow Corporation too. Whilst VERY restricted, the writing and design here are of a sufficient quality to make me wish that the games developers would make an Adventure Game set in the same universe as their next project.

Overall, the game is interesting, but very hard to recommend. It's probably a love it or hate it kind of thing, and you'd be best watching a little 'gameplay' to see if it's for you I suppose.

Next up: I don't actually know. I can't be bothered with the games I was originally planning to play through, so I'm kinda taking a break and kicking back with Harvest Moon because I felt like it. I might return to Patchwork Heroes after, but who knows what else I'll decide on.
