I just did NOT expect the story to go there. That one cut scene really shocked me as it was very emotionally powerful. Unfortunately though, as you said the story does go a bit downhill after that. That game's story has moments that are so ballsy, but then it pulls back as if it's afraid to follow through with the bold steps it has taken and would rather go with something easier and safer.

I still love the game overall though and disagree that it's not a good game for newbies to the genre. I think it's PERFECT for that actually. It's easy, fun, and accessible.

I also don't regard Patapon quite as highly as you do, but I did have fun with it. It has its flaws though

Yeah, Jeanne d'Arc definitely just felt a little too safe. It's artwork didn't do much to help that either, the boxart makes it looks like it'll be pretty heavy stuff, and apart from that one admittedly awesome segment, it never quite reaches those heights. Another issue I had were that the game let you have 14 playable characters, but some of those guys had maybe 4 lines in the whole game, so you never felt very close to them, even though compared to the likes of Fire Emblem the cast is comparatively tiny.
I can understand people not getting into patapon as much as I did, but I'd love to know more specifics. What were the issues you had with it?

Games Beaten in 2012 = 32
1/21 To the Moon (PC)
2/28 Kentucky Route Zero: Act I (PC)

Games Beaten = 2

3/12 The King of the Wood (PC)
Not much to say here that Ack hasn't covered, except for I didn't kill the cyborg. I just left, with him playing the piano. The game is a little haunting, kind of weird how a game with such simple graphics can have such atmosphere.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game. I didn't realize I could just walk away at the end! But then, I suppose it says something about me that I made the choice to do the deed without even trying to walk away at the very end.

Either way, I think it's an excellent game.

Yeah I wonder what it says about me that I didn't even try to destroy the little robots for the longest time, I didn't even think about it honestly. I was like, man, how do I get past this area...seriously.

1. Mega Man (NES)
2. Kirby's Adventure (NES)
3. Toejam & Earl (GEN)
4. Mortal Kombat (SCD)
5. Rockband (Hard) (360)
6. Mega Man 2 (NES)
7. Metal Storm (NES)
8. Little Samson (NES)
9. Castlevania (NES)
10. Super Mario Bros (NES)
11. Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers (NES)
12. Contra (NES)
13. Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
14. Pro Wrestling (NES)
15. Ducktales (NES)
16. Dragon Spirit (NES)
17. Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 (GC)
18. Batman: Arkham Asylum (360)

Dragon Spirit I cleared back when it was the "Shmup of the Month", but I figured I'd save it for the next update. The game may be a bit too easy, but flying around as a three-headed dragon is really satisfying.

I've killed the last boss in Phantasy Star Online countless times, but this was the first time I have gone from forest to the end of the game in one sitting. This game is the reason I have been lacking on "Games Beaten", as I usually end up sinking a few hundred hours into it per character. Easily one of my favorite games, and I'm glad I got my gf to go co-op with me this time.

Arkham Asylum could single-handedly be responsible for getting me back into current-gen gaming. I had picked this up a few months ago in a B2G1 sale, and just shelved it until recently. I am damn glad I decided to give it a spin, becuase this game is awesome. I started it up a couple nights ago and have had little sleep since then. I love the combat, I love the stealth, I love hunting down the various secrets and riddles. I actually can't think of a single moment in this game when I wasn't having a blast. I literally felt like Batman playing this game.

Thanks to Batman, I also decided on a whim to pick up the new Tomb Raider, so I'll be starting that tonight.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that fun for everyone, but I love it. Its very dungeon-crawly, so you have to be okay with seeing the forest a few hundred times, but there are so many crazy weapons to get, and each difficulty you climb up offers even crazier weapons and armor (with insane drop rates, sometimes reaching 1/100k).

IMO, its all about the GC version though. The local co-op is a must, and Episode 2 has as much content as Episode 1, if not more. Its just so much fun to veg out with the lady, farming a few enemies for their cool loot, and grinding towards finally reaching level 80 to be able to enter "Ultimate" mode, where every enemy sprite and rare spawn changes, and the really crazy loot starts popping up. And, since there are 10 color IDs in the game, and those determain the drops you can get, you can play through the game 10 times!

Wait until you play Arkham City. They improved just about everything. Although they went a bit overboard on Riddler trophies. There's like a million of them in the game. Even as an avid collector type gamer, I really got sick of it after a while.

Sleeping Dogs has a combat system that has similarities to Batman's combat, so that's pretty cool too

Damn, they actually put MORE hidden stuff in the sequel? I love collect-a-thon stuff, and I was pretty overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to collect in the first game. Its great to hear that City is even better though, as I already thought Asylum was top-notch.

I'll have to check out Sleeping Dogs too, as I really like that combat style, and I've heard great things about it.
