Even in a college town they're considered weird? I've never been to Auburn so I don't know. The only vegetarian restaurants close to my area are in Athens but there are freaks aplenty there too. I know exactly what you're talking about though. We're transplants to the South by way of Michigan so a bit out of place in a lot of ways. (I'm not disparaging this part of the country at all- we've been here 11 years and love it - just aware of some regional differences.)Ack wrote:I live in the Deep South, xraydash, and the only vegetarians I've ever met were very...well...weird. Just about everybody here eats meat. Of course, many of the people I know down here are willing to kill, prepare, and cook that meat too, so...yeah.
How FAT are YOU???
I could never eat something that I watched die. I've never been able to get past that.Ack wrote:I live in the Deep South, xraydash, and the only vegetarians I've ever met were very...well...weird. Ha. You guys wouldn't be able to make it in south Louisiana, then. Aside from the generic crawfish boils, we also have something called a boucherie. Basically, a heavily populated Cajun family (or community) buys a live pig of substantial size, slaughters it (in front of the kids if they want to see!!! Woo-hoo!), and prepares it in every way imaginable.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I cant stand watching something die then eating it, I love meat thoughMozgus wrote:I could never eat something that I watched die. I was a chef for about 8 years, so they decided to put me to work doing some of this stuff. Having dealt with raw meat and other similar cooking ingredients before, I had no problem helping. It did freak me out a little that the meat I was cutting was still warm with life, however.

Lets not forgot what we eat as well, everything from alligator to squirrel. Alligator sausage is delicious.glynnahab wrote: I was a chef for about 8 years, so they decided to put me to work doing some of this stuff.
