Stay on topic, foo'!

Lodestar, you mean like via Kaillera? My experience with Kaillera-enabled emus to date has been that they have a tendency to be laggy, but I know there's a 3rd party project to create less laggy Kaillera-compatible servers.

I know Kawaks does Kaillera and plays NEO GEO titles very well. Is there a Kaillera MAME build?

I have suggested to Racketboy that he host a Kaillera-compatible server for forum members. I don't know if he's ruled it in or out yet. Think I should keep bringing it up?

And yeah, your earlier mention of GGPO, GGPO does generally kick ass. I do hope they start opening it up to more games.

I have a p2p kaillera client that runs quite nicely, I haven't used server play ever since I got it.

Anyhow, the MAME version is 0.64 and I can upload the p2p client if you need it. Kawaks generally has some issues with desync, so not many people use it (never seen it used anywhere actually).

If you were to host it someplace, like a MegaUpload site or something, other people here might also want to download it. It might be nice to have that as an option. We could use the Racketboy wiki to record our information for matches.

For what it's worth...

Post by timewarpgamer »

I know I'm a little late on responding to the original question, but here is my list of top fighters for the Neo Geo:

Garou: Mark of the Wolves
King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest
King of Fighters '02: Challenge to Ultimate Battle
Last Blade
Samurai Shodown II
Waku Waku 7

Enjoy!

P.S. Note that not a single one of these is available on the Wii Virtual Console. The closest thing is KoF '94, the original and most primitive entry in the series that would eventually rival Street Fighter II. WTF? Why are do the Neo Geo VC games suck so much relative to the many amazing games released for that console?

Thanks for the list; I think I should have originally asked "which SNK fighters suck?" and then there would be only a couple of games to mention, if any at all.

As for the VC, I suppose they'll get around to it...there's no point in releasing the best games first and the earlier ones later (except they did this for Contra).

The best Contra and additional criticism of the Wii VC

Post by timewarpgamer »

Glad to be of service, Doctor. The Neo Geo does, indeed, have an awesome library of fighting games. The same way that the TurboGrafx-16 is to shoot 'em ups, SNK's console is to fighting titles.

My problem with the Virtual Console is that it's not the "best of" library that Nintendo originally described. Instead, we're bombarded with tons of crap and chaff in addition to the retro classics and greats. Interesting point about Contra. I'm a huge fan of the SNES and Genesis installments of the franchise, but I'll always be especially prone to loving the original on the NES. In fact, I think it's superior to Super C. So why the hell is Super C out on the NES but not the game that started it all? Yet another VC conundrum...

I guess I don't understand the marketing approach to the VC, in general. If a new gamer lacking in retro videogame education downloads a few clunkers (which is entirely too easy, given the plethora of crap games, and the lack of demos or any rating system for the titles), he/she may never visit the Wii shop channel again.

Thanks. I'll grab it when I'm home (and not at work).
