Just to add my two cents, I personally love the N64 and the 5th generation in general. Obviously the N64 library is (for the most part) a hideous mess to look at, but many of the truly great games stand up to this day.
Mario Kart 64 is the best in the series, in my opinion. Ocarina of Time is my second favorite in the series and I don't find it's aged too badly at all. Super Mario 64 is just as fun to play now as it ever was. Sure, Goldeneye is a clunky, ugly mess, but I think we're all so used to the polished look of the current-gen FPS games that anything from that era will seem wonky and gross to look at. Smash Bros. is still awesome, Star Fox is still awesome, and Pilot Wings is still awesome.
As has been mentioned, Starcraft 64 is an unplayable pile of crap, and I absolutely hated Resident Evil 2 with the N64 controller - give me the original Playstation version any day. The Turok games are okay, especially the first one, but nothing to write home about. All in all, I would say it's aged about as well as can be expected, and it's still worth owning both the system and games.

I love my N64 and still have mine from launch in perfect working condition. I was playing Mario Kart 64 and Ridge Racer 64 last weekend with the wife and friends. Good times, easily one of the best multiplayer consoles.

I found mine NIB at a goodwill last year...controllers too. The 1st party games are so expensive, but I'll still pick up the $3 carts just have more. I think that the N64 being the last cartridge console ever is part of why I like it so much.

To be honest that couldn't be closer to the truth to some extent for me. There's still a few first parties I need to get(and probably get again since i don't think my dad would like it if i took that system for myself like i've already done with the nes(but that one he never played anyways)). I never really grew up with the N64, just tried a few games. but i never got into it during its heyday. But i've been thinking of getting the N64 console just to add to my collection. but when i tried again some games on the virtual console first, it just felt,i dunno ..dull?
i guess i just really prefer stuff to be in 2D style. starfox 64 was a blast though.

Funny enough, in terms of features, the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 is superior to the PlayStation 1 release. Also, I consider the first Turok to be interesting from a historical note, as it was the first console FPS to really garner widespread attention and show the genre could work on a console. Turok 2 was a superior game, though going back to it now is more than a little rough.

Well the thing is at least to me, some of the games on n64 took some getting used to, especially whenever I decide to go back to it. Which is odd because i have no issue playing my nes and snes....

that is a part of the growing pains of 3D. You can see that for a lot of great classic titles on the Playstation and the Saturn. Things like camera were a problem for games that still to this day plague us. N64 is a strange duck. This is the only system where I feel compelled to collect the hardware more than the games themselves. All of the console and controller variations are a real blast to seek out in the wild for me.
Of course, I do collect the first party and hidden gem type games. I would also say that of all the consoles, this one has arguably the best sports title in NFL Blitz. I don't even like football and I absolutely love this game!

While not playing all of the library continuously, I have played through Super Mario 64 and Shadows of the Empire numerous times. I think they, along with some others have held up quite well. Like others mentioned, I think the biggest problem is that Nintendo was pushing the limits of what was available to see how far they could go. High risk, high reward.
