Re: Doom HD Re-release
In multiplatform games players should be allowed to use controllers if they wish to do so, but it's their fault if they get owned. It's the same thing as refusing to use an arcade stick in a fighter game.MrPopo wrote:They've done that. Generally FPS games shouldn't be designed for gamepads so that gameplay would be more varied (leaning, proning and so on), but in a game that doesn't require as many keybinds, there's no harm in having the game ported to consoles and supporting gamepads. That would be the case with Quake, it's managable with a normal controller.
So there shouldn't really be any reasons why a game like that couldn't become succesful as an eSport. It has the potential even as a PC exclusive (all major eSport games are PC games anyways), but having console players also competing would increase the playerbase and make it even more popular.
People could play the game on consoles with gamepads and have fun. PC version would also support gamepads. If a console/gamepad player wants to become more serious and start competing, then he'll have to switch to a keyboard and mouse. But that doesn't mean that casual (nor active players who aren't competitive) couldn't enjoy playing the game with gamepads at lower rankings.
So if you add skill/ranking brackets, have PC and console players on the same servers and allow both gamepad and keyboard+mouse support on both the PC and the console versions, there shouldn't really be any reason why the game couldn't become a succesful eSport.

I was interested in this for the Lost Mission. Sounds like a price drop should hit first though.

It's only $30 though, on PC at least. Which is the version everyone should be buying.Xeogred wrote:I was interested in this for the Lost Mission. Sounds like a price drop should hit first though.

I came across this video and it explains the discrepancy between the early id games and those of today. Rage was so generic that I didn't even recognise it at first in the video.

With holiday coming around, I think its safe to say we should wait for the 19.99-29.99 price tags for consoles.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
