I never even touched the BC2 campaign though and probably won't even bother with this one, so oh well. Not why I'd buy a BF game.

I remember BC1 and BC2 having longer (though not long) campaigns. I generally plan to put 4-8 hours into a campaign and about the same into multiplayer (unless I get really taken with multiplayer). I guess I shouldn't be surprised as they are going for the MW market, but I had come to expect more.

Also, the story is a mess so far...so the 2 hours or so I have spent haven't even been very fun.

It was the same problem with the MOH campaign (which was worse than this). It is a shame they haven't just built on the excellent strengths of BC1 and BC2.

EDIT: Holy shit, I am apparently half way through the game already after two very short play sessions, most of which has felt like tutorial hand-holding. Ugh.

The campaign is basically a multiplayer tutorial with a story mixed in. This is a multiplayer focused game

I get that, really I do. The campaigns in MW1 and MW2 are better, though, as are those in BC1 and BC2. I get that the campaign isn't the focus of development, but that doesn't mean it has to suck. By comparison, in the other games I mentioned I always wish there was more to it: they are well paced and feel like more than a multiplayer tutorial. So far, Battlefield 3 doesn't come close.

I would also say mw1 nd mw2 multiplayer aren't as good as bf3. So somewhat of a trade off...

BF2 is one of my favorite games ever and was the only game I played online for almost 3 years straight and I can't even remember if I ever played the campaign.

I am enjoying BF3 just as much but I know I will probably never play campaign on the xbox just because I am not interested enough to put the second disc in.

I love playing modern day military shooters online but I just can't get into them for the story. What are you really going to get other then terrorist are trying to destroy something and you stop them? The only one I can think of that I played for the story was Homefront and I did find that one interesting.

Even with all it's problems BF3 is the best shooter available in my opinion. There is nothing else like it on the market. I can not think of any other modern day shooter that has any where near the variety it has. Some nights I will do nothing but drive a tank or fly a helicopter if I don't feel like being a soldier. I have even had rounds where I hardly killed anyone but would still be at the top of the leader board because I was sneaking around taking flags and being a effective medic or engineer. Also if you want to play in cluster fuck mode like every other game then play team deathmatch. Personally I only play conquest mode because I like the huge stages but they did at least try to put something in for everyone.

I still don't get why people get their panties in a bunch arguing over COD vs BF. They are two different styles so just play the one you prefer and STFU. If you like a tactical team based shooter with vehicles then play BF. If you like a cluster fuck one man army experience like every other shooter out there then play COD.

I personally can't wait for COD to come out so it thins out all their players from BF. I am sick of having squad mates online that have no idea how to use anything in there kit but the gun or don't care about winning the round as long as they ponwz everyone and go 20-2 in kills. I think BF is special because it is the only online game where I don't care what my score is as long as I effectively helped the team and we win the round. I have never played any other shooter like that.

I also think anyone who complains about the graphics is either 18 or younger or just plain stupid. Yes there are some issues but who cares. You must not remember when all games looked like shit but they were still fun. If you have only played the current or last generation of systems them I firmly believe you really can't appreciate how far video games have come. I still remember playing NBA Jams on Genesis and being impressed with how good it looked or having my mind completely blown away by how realistic the first Gran Tourismo was on PS. I do appreciate when the graphics are the best you have ever seen but that is more of a bonus for me then a deciding factor on how good the game is. If graphics are your main concern then you have probably missed out on a lot of great games.

thanks for bringing the idiocy about FPSs that permeates debates on other forums to Racketboy. I am pretty sure that you didn't read any of the previous posts in this thread, and I am pretty sure you aren't really someone who I want to discuss the genre with. How you can both deride and embody the COD vs BF debate in one post is beyond me...

no, I can't get on board with Origin. Besides, I am pretty well convinced that no major studio designs FPSs with the PC in mind anymore, as even Valve and iD have delivered to the PC what are clearly console-focued versions of their most recent titles.

I actually did read the previous posts and all I got from them was people bitching about the campaign or graphics. I just shared my thoughts on them which I thought that's what people were doing here?

I personally think it's silly to buy this game for the campaign mode but I should still be respectful of other peoples preferences. I just don't like seeing the game get knocked over the campaign when I feel like most people who know the Battlefield series don't even care if it has a campaign mode.

I guess I don't really get what you mean when you say I "both deride and embody COD vs BF". When I mention being at the top of the scoreboard at the end of round I am not saying that because I care about my score. I am mentioning it because I love the fact that there are different ways to play the game and be highly effective other then having the most kills.

If you're knocking me because I said some nights I just play as I tank or a heli pilot then I probably didn't explain myself enough. I have played with the same 10 or so friends since BF2. We all have our primary roles but we will take turns doing them if someone feels like playing as something else. If I am in a tank or chopper all night normally it's because someone else in the my squad wanted a break from it.

Sorry for bringing the idiocy and I apologize if I somehow derailed this highly intellectual debate that was going on.

That is what we are doing, but I don't know that it is fair to say anyone's been "bitching" so much as explaining what parts of the game they felt fell short.

I personally think it's silly to buy this game for the campaign mode but I should still be respectful of other peoples preferences. I won't claim to be an expert on the whole series, but I have played the previous releases on current-gen consoles and found them all to have enjoyable single player campaigns AND multiplayer action. So far, I am not feeling the single player which I do factor into my evaluation of any game. Niode's been critiquing the multiplayer, and so far he seems to have some very legitimate concerns.

I guess I don't really get what you mean when you say I "both deride and embody COD vs BF".

deride:

I still don't get why people get their panties in a bunch arguing over COD vs BF. They are two different styles so just play the one you prefer and STFU.

then embody:

If you like a tactical team based shooter with vehicles then play BF. If you like a cluster fuck one man army experience like every other shooter out there then play COD...

I personally can't wait for COD to come out so it thins out all their players from BF. I am sick of having squad mates online that have no idea how to use anything in there kit but the gun or don't care about winning the round as long as they ponwz everyone and go 20-2 in kills...

^^ all that is what I found to be typical of the combative attitude that pervades so many "my FPS is better and you are clearly not smart enough to get it" debates that I see elsewhere.

Sorry for bringing the idiocy and I apologize if I somehow derailed this highly intellectual debate that was going on.

I never claimed it was highly intellectual, just that it was free of some of the vapid comments such as those I just cited...
