I played the shit out of all of the dreamcast fishing games with a normal controller.
Why? dunno, it was fun.
The thing that is really amazing about this game is that Sega decided they wanted to make fisfing games. And they did. They made them really well and exciting! It´s hard to explain.
You should get a VGA box, dc and 480p capable tv with VGA inputs and get a fishing rod!
It will probably blow your mind.
As for fishing itself. it can be fun, but it probably gets more fun, the older you get...
You´re in the great outdoor. And then there´s the challenge of getting the damn fish out of the water.

So in a way I'm fascinated that there's this whole little weird nitche that I know nothing about. I'm fascinated that something that sounds totally boring to me could be excited to somebody else. So, does anybody play fishing games? Is the appeal something you could explain?
My family is all made up of big fisherman. I'm the only one who doesn't like it. I just don't have the patience to sit out on the water for hours hoping for a nibble. Ice fishing during the Maine winters is even worse.
That said, Sega Bass Fishing is cool, but that's the only fishing game I've ever really been into. I've never actually used that special Dreamcast controller though.
I've enjoyed Sega Bass Fishing on the Wii. The allure of it (for me) is trying to catch the biggest fish or beating a time challenge for number of fish. To me it equates to beating a high score in a shmup, just with fish....

How are the controls?
The controls are pretty nifty actually. You use the Wii remote and Nunchuk as the rod and reel, respectively. You're fishing line breaks fairly easily so it's a matter of learning to be delicate with the remote at the right moments. It's an arcade port so not much depth but still enjoyable.
*If anyone wants to try it out for cheap, most eBay auctions for a used copy are ending between 3-6 dollars.
