Duke Nukem Forever dismantled by Eurogamer. 3/10, ouch.

Manhattan Project?
Was thinking the same thing. I'm actually unsure what the critical reception was, but I thought it was very enjoyable.

According to Wikipedia:

"Manhattan Project received mostly positive ratings, in the range of 7-8 out of 10. GameSpy gave the game 83%, calling it "A slick platform arcade game at a reasonable price…captures Duke perfectly; great system performance; clever use of 3D. Similarly, Game Over gave the game an 81% score, praising it: "Movement is kept at a brisk pace and there are plenty of monsters to blow away…a refreshing evolutionary step for the platform game without play devolving into a third person behind-the-back affair" GameSpot, with a 7.9 out of 10, was more neutral, saying, "It's straightforward and good-looking…the levels are huge, and most have several paths you can take."[9] IGN awarded it a 7.7 out of 10, citing, "Manhattan Project is a polished, tried, and true title…worthy of a recommendation, especially given its keen price point and familiar antihero.""

I actually like Manhattan Project more than Duke 3D.

...course I've never been a huge fan of FPS in general, even the classics.

Manhattan Project was very cool. A Metroidvania-esque Duke sidescroller like that would probably be awesome.

Who here liked the PSX games? I think I remember A Time to Kill was really cool.

I haven't brought them up because I figured everyone hated them, but yes, I used to love Time to Kill. My friend and I would play the multiplayer for hours and I've beaten the singleplayer too. I never played Land of the Babes but I imagine it's pretty much the same thing.

Yeah, considering 3DR didn't really develop them themselves I guess they're not totally official, or just nobody talks about them... but my friend and I had a ton of fun with A Time to Kill back in the day too, the multiplayer was good stuff. Never played Land of the Babes either though. I'll have to pick both up someday.

So far it's not that bad, nor is it that great. Probably worth a single playthrough just to experience it. The two guns thing is a real kick in the nuts though, and some of the loaded levels/sections where you do practically nothing feel very pointless.

I'll probably beat it, then go back and play DN3D and have a hell of a good time again.

What was Metroid-like about it? It was stage based.
