ha, as funny as your comment was, I think he was trying to make a point
Regardless, Just because two things are in the same genre does not mean they are clones of each other, all new creations take inspiration from things past, whether it be books, movies, games, art...they all build off of each other, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, but to say one is better than the other...in this instance, is completely opinion, plus i'm tired of reading you guys whine about street fighter

I think the Ultima Franchise should have ended long before it did (technically it is only hibernating). I loved the series, but it fell apart.
Another franchise I think they should have 86ed that yall havent mentioned is James Bond post Goldeneye. Every title since has been pretty bad (Nightfire was the best of the lot and even it was a only a decent shooter - multiplayer on the pc was rubbish, console was only slightly better. Single player was decent all around).
I am a huge Zelda fan but they need to reboot the series. Windwaker was astounding, Four Swords was great, Twilight Princess was soso. Take away the cliche dungeon set, add in some new useful items - the top was AWESOME but used only what, three times out of the dungeon you get it in?, and give us some epic feeling fights. If they continue on the way they are Ill keep buying them, but they could make something HUGE.

I just happen to prefer the SF2 series and Virtua Fighter more because yes, they are the original, unique fighting games, and also because I simply feel that they are indeed superior to many of these other games that came after them.
I guess you have a point. No fighting games came before Street Fighter, therefore all other games are trying to ride it's coattails.
http://hg101.kontek.net/fighters/fighters.htmYep. No fighting games existed before Street Fighter. None at all. Street Fighter is the original and unique one. It totally wasn't taking concepts of previous fighting games and condensing them into the best possible mix. It was all original.
Anyway, back to the original topic...
I think Mario Kart should die. Mario Kart Wii just felt like the same old, same old - Nothing new about it at all. It's like, now that Nintendo has had success, they want to take less and less chances. Perhaps if it were dead, Nintendo would finally make a new entry in another racing game. F-Zero, perhaps. Maybe even a full-fledged Excitebike sequel.

By Weekend_Warrior's logic, Duke Nukem 3D was a knockoff of Quake because both are FPSes and they both used WASD.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I never really cared if Multiplayer focused games (ie. Mario Kart, Unreal Tournament, Dawn of War, etc.) don't innovate or change with the next version just so long as it gets updated/improved (ie. more maps/tracks, better graphics, etc.).

I appreciate your sarcasm. There were "fighting" games before Street Fighter II like Street Smart and Pit-Fighter. But they were actually considered to be scrolling "brawlers" or "beat-em ups" and most of them only used two or three buttons (Kick/Punch or Kick/Punch/Jump). These games were button mashers at best. They didn't require any real methodical technique. When SF2 came out it changed everything and established an actual "fighting game" genre.
It's hard to explain. But there is a difference

Wrong. Quake was the Duke 3D knockoff.

...just like there is a difference between SF and KoF.

I think that we can all agree every game is pretty much just a pong knockoff. And that's just a rip off of computer space.
Which is a ripoff of Galaxy game.
