On topic: I forgot another game. Persona 4 I have easily put in over 100 hours on. I really need to get back to playing Persona 3 now.Anapan wrote:^ Skies of Arcadia - I keep seeing this in some people's ultimate games list, but it shows up few and far between. Not having my own Dreamcast until way after my youth I never really played any DC RPGs. After I got one, I never really played any of the longer games as it was at the same time as my PS2, Xbox, and PC were simultaneously vying for my attention.
Not wanting to go off topic too much, but was the time well spent compared to Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 12, or Persona 3 (the current 3 that if I was going to jump back into an RPG - those would be tough to not choose)?
Re Skies of Arcadia: The sad thing is I've never even completed Skies of Arcadia, but I've put so many hours into it
For me, as an RPG, it's hard to describe why it's so good. On the surface, it's a very standard JRPG affair. The battle system is generic, random battles are too common (I hear this was improved and rebalanced on the GameCube port) and generally it's a standard 'explore open world, go to new town/area, explore dungeon, beat boss' kinda RPG. However, what makes it so awesome for me, is the characters, story and world are all beautifully crafted and the whole 'space pirates' setting is brilliant. Also, whilst the normal battles are a standard turn-based system, with few bells and whistles, the ship battles are genuinely fantastic and add more 'meat to the bones'.
