Yes! Spin-off threads are generally a bad idea. They tend to wither and die.
I've heard a couple of "gaming challenges" lately that I like:
- beat one game for each letter of the alphabet
- beat one game released per year since 1977 (or whatever)
Unfortunately neither one of these would fit into the loose schedule I've already established.

This intrigues me also. Should we make it part of the "Games Beaten" thread or a separate thread where we all track our progress through the alphabet?
same thread! less threads = better!
i am tempted to throw my hat in the ring...
I was hoping you'd chime in since that thread is your baby. Sounds good to me.

The yearly one sounds really interesting too, but I've actually beaten most of the games I owned as a kid so my unbeaten collections skews pretty modern. I'd end up having to buy lots of stuff worth playing XD

It'd be fun to combine these in some way...perhaps I shall, but I'll pick and choose years...perhaps start with A in 1979 and go through Z in 2005, the launch of the last gen...

1984 and 1985 would be tough.

You'd need a game beginning with Q from 1995 if i worked it out right.
A fun way to do the yearly thing might be to play the best selling game of each year to see how tastes change over time.

I've played most of the yearly best sellers. Lots of Mario.
I'm sure there are many, but here's one odd Q game from 1995:

I think it might be fun to come up with a fairly long list of games and pair up with another member that does the same and let the one pick a game for the other to beat. You can list games you really want to play, games you would dread beating, or any variety you want. On the flip side the other person could be as devious or kind as they please haha. You can add stipulations if you want (no FPS, no games over 20 hours, etc).
