Nope. Non-DLC-Owning-Players do not have access to content that is in the DLC that is put in a rotation of events that happen every week. When the DLC event happens, normal players can't play it.Opa Opa wrote:I'm not reading all this bickering...So the way I understand the article:
-new update and content released
-players get 'persuaded' to purchase DLC packs by getting temporarily locked out of base content.
-players are upset that they can't play something they already paid for/had access to unless they purchase said DLC or wait for the timer to unlock base content.
Is that a fair assessment of the situation?

So basically...
- weekly event with vanilla content
- next week: event with DLC-specific content; vanilla players can't join in.

Perhaps next month buy yet another DLC package or get locked out of weekly rotation levels?Opa Opa wrote:So basically...

THIS. The modes in question leaded to a perception that was part of the initial purchase package. As in any DLC game, features can be locked out all controlled by the game company. The concept of continual paying for each revised update DLC should not be supported.brunoafh wrote:Because that's irrelevant. The issue is modes becoming temporarily locked, not content being removed.emwearz wrote:ALL CONTENT FROM THE VANILLA GAME IS ACCESSIBLE TO NON-DLC USERS.
Why does this point keep getting ignored.
When you think about it, shareware would lock out a game after an installed duration. A timeout tease enticing one to purchase a game to continue playing which is expected. However, I do not think a PAID FOR game should have that same capability even if it is bonus weekly extras since the perception is misleading.
How many actually read (or should be forced) the large list of disclaimers when installing a game?

I get the excuse, at a base level it makes some sense, but I've only ever played the original Halo a few times on PC. As I said I've never owned any MS console too. I had no idea this was the standard practice of Bungie to add and then take away pieces (even small ones) if you don't keep paying. I've never experience DLC that giveth then taketh away, and had I known they did that I would have never bought the game in all fair disclosure.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Also, this isn't the first time Bungie has pulled this. They did it with Halo 3, and I believe Reach did also.
CRT: No problem, don't mind the attacks. It wasn't a level, it was sometimes use of a key element of the game to get the better gear depending what they rotate in for the weekly and nightly battles. It's not like they sliced out Mars or something.
bruno: You're correct. For a very long time games have lasted for years with healthy communities before DLC was around, and even after in the cases of added packs (WoW for example), or even where there is DLC but they don't cut non buyers off at certain points or certain piece (even off and on) if they don't pay more. This seems to be a Bungie thing they've done I guess since Halo 3 as the earlier post said.
Basically, yes. Vanilla users now get locked out of some places on a per week basis depending on what Bungie loads in for the weekly and daily challenges. If those are based on DLC you can't play and lose out waiting until the next rotation to get the upper tier gear needed for deeper in the game. I imagine as more DLC comes if people don't buy it there will be more increasing gaps of time where you can't play unless you pay and pay again some more to unlock it all.Opa Opa wrote:So basically...

Oh and ds, I've got you on foe so if you're directing more misinformed ignorant drivel at me or tossing lame insults I no longer see it so just give up.

Re: Bungie cuts off Destiny owners from existing content for
again, there's no level that can't be played without DLC.
the only advantage of a level being "in rotation" is that it drops a few extra things when you finish it...one time. The only reason you'd really need to care about those extra drops is if you are invested in the in-game economies of leveling your character's gear. If you are invested in that, you'd want to buy the DLC since it dramatically effects that economy.

So it's basically like in Battlefield when you could see DLC maps in rotation but never join any servers hosting them? Sounds legit.

They are the "featured" levels this week and so players get a few more drops by playing them (one time). for this, OUTRAGE!Sload Soap wrote:So it's basically like in Battlefield when you could see DLC maps in rotation but never join any servers hosting them? Sounds legit.
