I watched some Microsoft stuff on Spike TV and literally fell asleep. I love the oXbox and 360 but "the One" looks like a dud so far.

Do you feel that game design hinges on a new mascot and a paint job?dsheinem wrote:Retrogaming forum thinks company that showed 90% old IPs on aging hardware had the best E3 showing. News @11.

I think the big three pressers were largely void of any interesting or new game design.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Do you feel that game design hinges on a new mascot and a paint job?dsheinem wrote:Retrogaming forum thinks company that showed 90% old IPs on aging hardware had the best E3 showing. Constant and utter pessimism, I'm sorry you forgot what fun was. It must be boring to never get excited about anything.
I didn't really watch anything, but this E3 was miles better than last year. Good stuff.

Re: Who Won E3 2014?
Nintendo really showed the most pertinent stuff for me.
Microsoft:
Ultimately, I don't care about Xbox One, like the previous two systems I'll find one used for $20 with games for $3, eventually. There's nothing there that I'd just be torn up over if I couldn't get to play it at some point. I just don't care.
A lot is out this year ... but quite a bit is just trailer teases and 2015 dates.
11 Microsoft published games. Four for this year.
Sony:
There's only 5 Sony published titles that were shown, one is a re-release. One is out this year.
Nintendo:
Sixteen titles published by Nintendo (the most from any publisher at the show! Not counting any of those indie reels) 8 come out this year.
Nothing Nintendo talked about seemed to be beyond Summer 2015 either. I would imagine Zelda is a winter 2015 game. But, Mario Maker is confirmed for February, or there about. Mario Party's usually release in spring. and Yoshi will likely release in late spring or early summer. Xenoblade is likely fall. Kirby, I have no idea.
But I don't think E3 2016 will roll around and these titles will not have been released.
I actually cared about the titles Nintendo showed. They all looked, at least a little, interesting. I would say I cared about Mario Party 10 the least. And they didn't even show that in the digital event.
In terms of ... most anticipated game for the future, that's No Man's Sky for me. But who had the best showing at E3? I'm at an age where I'm not going to spend four years being optimistic about pining over a game. When the rumor that Last Guardian came out, part of me was like, "good". Because, I want it to either come out, or go away. I don't want to hear teases about a game that will be out a year before the next generation begins. (Or beyond!)
You show me games that are this year, or next year. And that's it. Unless you're launching hardware and you really need to sell it that you'll have stuff coming in the first couple years, you shouldn't be teasing that far out. I think even announcement trailers are going too far now if it isn't from some impossible to ignore demand.
At this point in time, I'm also somewhat jaded with announcement trailers coming out a year before gameplay reveal trailers ... which come out a year before gameplay demos and MAYBE the game comes out that third year. I think games should be shown at like ... 2 E3's max. Reveal with gameplay demo, next year another demo, and it releases.
I feel like that's what Nintendo showed me. They showed me a bunch of stuff I'd find interesting, and it's all got some sort of date attached to it. While No Man's Sky and Uncharted 4 will be incredible, I'm sure ... I don't know when they're coming. Not to mention, Zelda and Xenoblade kinda look incredible too.
And that's without mentioning their "hey this is what we're thinking" gameplay demos. Those'll probably have releases before a lot of the stuff Sony showed. And currently, they're prototypes.
EA showed actual pre-alpha game prototypes because they didn't have enough to talk about. I just felt that I needed to mention that.
