Well, for 500 bucks, you could get an Omega CMVS.

But if you gave me $1000 all at once? I'm finally getting into arcade gaming. Most likely with a nice $500ish supergun and a consolized Atomiswave (because I already have an AES with a convertor coming soon, and it seems like after an MVS the Atomiswave is the system that has the SECOND most games that I would love to play)

Avoiding the nickel-dime purchases in this hobby is tough, but rewarding when you can stick to it. Less clutter, better stuff (usually).

I like Atomiswave quite a bit, but to me, the PGM library is quite a bit deeper. Both are worth getting into though.

I'm pretty sure those game protection cases are just re-sold plastic greeting card boxes that you can buy in bulk.

That is about half the price as when they are sold as game boxes.

Agreed on the first bit. I mean, it's nice to flesh out the shelves to a point, but I think I'm rapidly approaching that point (or have passed it already).

As to the second point, I sent James an email on his site about a supergun and got the expected price point in response today... I'm GOING to take the plunge reeeeaaaallly soon at this point. Just need to pull together the cash. At the absolute latest, it'll be in July (my next 3 paycheck month). And thanks to your writeups, PGM was going to be the second system, although to be honest if I'm getting the supergun I'll probably skip on the consolizing for now. Might have to take a closer look and see if I need to flip-flop those two when I start getting closer to affording it.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

There are still some JP shops that sell Vega's and Raijins - both brands are built like tanks and have safety fuses - wide open cases to do work if needed. I'm happy to look into it if you like, just lmk. They are usually $100-150 less than US forums, but you pay about half of that back to ship it of course.

The problem with the escort missions is the AI in the game. My advice is to give your escorts really good, powerful weapons. Like Katana's or Mini Chainsaw's. That way they can defend themselves pretty easily. You will still need to help them out on occasion though. The problem I've always had was trying to help them out and NOT kill them when trying to kill zombies. I almost had a 100% complete play though once, but I got to a point where I saved in a bad spot where I couldn't finish the escort and get back to finish the regular mission without running out of time. That sucked.

With some practice and patience you can get pretty good at escorting the people, it can just be extremely frustrating.

If you gave me $1000 and FORCED me to spend it on gaming stuff I'd probably blow it all on some PS1 games I never got the chance to play when I was younger.

Pretty much. I did a bunch of research to find the right ones but have since forgotten.
