In Kalamazoo, Bell's is the nigh-unanimous pick for the representative local beer. I don't drink myself, but whenever I mention Kzoo, people always seem to bring up Bell's.

In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it's definitely the Keeweenaw Brewing Company. All of the Beers tend to have names tied back to the region's mining history. My favorite is Pick Axe Blonde. All of the beers follow Reinheitsgebot. In the area, it's quite easy to find it all on tap at most of your bars and pubs.
Downstate, there's plenty of breweries, but I can't say I'm attuned to what people drink. My guess is a lot of Bell's and Founder's beers. At the ball-games in Detroit it's either Miller Lite or Labatt Blue. Summer Shandy is pretty common, as with a lot of Leinenkugel's beers.
Ninjainspandex is lucky though, Spotted Cow is the bee's knees.

My favorite was always Olde English or Big Bear 40's... I'd drink like 3 at a time. When I'd go to bars I'd usually go for Labatte Blue.
Even the horses are cut in half......

Sweetwater can be found all over down here, since their brewery is located here. I don't drink it often (too hoppy for my tastes), but if you're into it, it's easy to obtain.

My wife loves this stuff. Although she is getting a bit burned out on it, she probably bought three twelve packs of it this summer.Blu wrote:Summer Shandy is pretty common, as with a lot of Leinenkugel's beers.
TIP: One of my neighbors informed me that, in Alabama, they make shandies with beer, lemonade, and vodka. I decided to try this by drinking the neck off of a Leinenkugel's and then adding one shot of vodka. The vodka actually perked up the beer nicely, and it made for a very relaxing Sunday afternoon.
TIP: In rural Kansas, they drink "red beer", which is basically a cheap American lager mixed with tomato juice and served very cold. The tomato juice adds a "saltiness" to the beer that is very nice, and I think that this is the only way to make certain beers tolerable. It also pairs well with country-fried steak or other appropiately rustic foods.

Dog Fish Head and Yuengling, and yes, in Southeast Pa. Summer Shandy is hella good. Been drinking that for a while now too.
Surprisingly, I had a beer "cocktail" over the weekend at Red Robin's that was really good.
It was Blue Moon, clementine vodka (svedka) dash of OJ and lime juice over ice.
MIND=BLOWN
my new fav drink.

I can vouch for this; there's a KBC pub right down the street from where I live in Houghton.Blu wrote:In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it's definitely the Keeweenaw Brewing Company.
