Wow. This is like an entirely new game. The first two stages are really good. The game has a narrator, which seems to be all the rage these days. If you pre-ordered the PSN version like I did you should have a free copy of the original Genesis version too. So if you don't like the remake, you can enjoy the original

I reserve judgement on the rest of the game, but the first two levels made a very good impression. I finished Ducktales Remastered and thought Wayforward did a great job. Hopefully, this is as good if not better. It's certainly more ambitious. There's a LOT more gameplay content here based on the first two stages, but the original's core mechanics are still here. Jump on enemies and throw apples. The levels are just more fleshed out and there seem to be more secrets and there are some parts where you can move around in a 3d space

This feels less like a remake and more like Castle of Illusion 2.

Is there a demo out for this? I loved Castle of Illusion but I just don't trust HD remakes.

There is on PSN, I think.

I bought it and I love it so far. I think it's a great remake (or re-imagining rather).

It is great indeed, I love it too. Some of the low scores this has gotten are strange.

Sometimes reviews are on the money with some games, and other times it seems like they've all lost their minds

I think it's the same sort of thing that we saw with Ducktales(which I also loved), a general backlash against old fashioned platformers. I don't get it. Castle of Illusion is polished and just adds on to the existing elements of the original game to make something more fleshed out and fun

If I have one criticism, it's that the original Genesis game should not have been only included with pre-orders of the PSN version. It would have been a nice bonus for everyone and would have made the whole package seem like a real bargain. And there's also my usual complaint with PS 3 games having save copy locks. I'm sure that's not an issue with the 360 and PC versions though. It's getting harder and harder to recommend multi-plat games on the PS3. Even this late in the generation. PS3 multi-plat games are still inferior to other platforms. Boggles the mind.

Tell me about it. Sometimes I think some critics just completely miss the point with a lot of these retro remakes. I read one review that basically said "not as good as Rayman Legends." I mean, really? They're comparing a remake of a 23 year old game with an entirely new game that's nearly four times the price?

I say, if you loved the original and/or old-school platformers, then buy it. It's cheap and lots of fun. The nostalgia I get playing it fills me with warmth. Especially when accompanied with the new production elements, like the narrator. The levels are really nicely fleshed out with some great design.

I streamed the whole game on Twitch a couple days ago for those who want to see a full play. I turned off the narrator because I found the narration to be distracting/annoying.

If you like retro games, come hang out on my stream!

A World of Illusion sequel with local co-op would be sweet indeed.

I love the remakes...
But the question for the retro community is , do you prefer the original or the enhanced remakes/ports ?

Originals, nearly every single time.
