Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Again, oh you guys.

NewsCorp aka 20th Century FOX still owns the original movies. If you're expecting a blu ray release of the original trilogy, it's already been released. Disney won't be re-releasing it.

And as it has been said, we'll be getting a NEW Star Wars movie without Lucas being involved. Bonus!

This is one of many purchases Disney has, and plans on making. Sooner or later everything cool will be owned by Disney, and I can assure you Universal and Sony are scared shitless.

For now, yes, but in time it will fall back to Disney.

That's not necessarily true.

Fox doesn't actually own the movies, they're just the distributor. Lucasfilm bought the rights to the films themselves a long time ago, like way before the '97 SE's a long time ago. I doubt Fox would've held back releasing the original cuts if it was in their hands.

They're staying distributor until 2020 last I heard.

Disney also released a statement saying they purchased the rights to Earthworm Jim, Natalie Portman, The Walking Dead, Barack Obama, and the flying car.

They ain't foolin'.

Why do I imagine that there are Disney execs just dying at the opportunity to buy up Nintendo or something?

Itll fall to them before it goes into public domain. Remember, this is the company that got public domain pushed out to a stupidly long amount of time, they will find a way to get them back.

Might take longer than you would think.

Man, Dark Horse is going to take one hell of a major hit from this. Also, seeing a Star Wars movie without the Fox logo beginning is going to feel icky.
