Yeah, the uber beam works quite well against the boss since you're going to hit at least 5 rooms per shot, maybe more if the RNG is nice to you. And multiple Burst Laser IIs is awesome; you got real lucky that run to get them.

Burst Laser MkII is one of the best weapons in the game, simply because it's pretty fast, pretty cheap and pretty efficient while complementing every layout. I always pick them up if I have the chance.

I've grown to like the Flak weapons as well, but they're a compliment to some strong damage dealer.

Is it better to keep your engines or your shields manned in the beginning of the game?

I'm assuming engines for the extra dodge percentage.

Engines. Manning shields increases the rate they come back which is pretty negligible at the start and doesn't do a whole lot even fully maxed out.

Flak II is the best weapon in the game. It's extremely efficient, takes down all the Flagships' shields in a single volley and pairs with any kind of other weapon.

Flak I is kind of mediocre, since it has a higher chance to miss than other weapons and only fires three shots, chances are you'll have battles in which you won't be able to penetrate shields even after two or three volleys which is awful.
