I'm gonna copy/paste what I wrote off-topic in another thread.
The reviewer was obviously looking to ruffle some feathers and make a few people mad, but I think he has some valid points. One thing I'm worried about for Skyward Sword is the repetiveness of the franchise. I frikkin loved Twilight Princess but I could definitely see it getting old as I'm tired of going from dungeon to dungeon and fetch quest to fetch quest.

Do we all know the GS 7.5 for Zelda means something different than the games you mentioned? yes. Are we Zelda fanboys still gonna love the game? yes. But it's ok to point out some flaws in the series and hope for some innovation down the road.

Edit: I can't help but think that most of the reviews I'm reading are coming from people that started playing Zelda with Ocarina of Time. I keep reading reviews that talk about the emphasis on dungeons and all, and the overworld just being something to get to the next dungeon, but I feel like that has been a problem in most Zelda games since OOT except maybe Majora's Mask.

Instead of a score they use a recommend, ok but not for everyone, or a not recommended (don't remember exact words) and than write why. Maybe its a good game but overpriced, maybe Its good for a certain genre game, or maybe its just really bad. I can read it and it makes sense.

I wish they did it for new releases as well but they're not afraid to use the entire 1-10 scale and It'd be nice if all reviews/magazines were like this. They seem mostly impartial.
Bad example. Nintendo reviewing their own games? Of course there is bias.
Nintendo Power has and does slam Nintendo-made games from time to time. They're actually a bit more even handed than you'd think.

Anyhow, I'm so glad to be reading in this thread that the new Zelda really does mix up the classic formula. The staleness of the Zelda formula was my biggest beef with Twilight Princess, and I'm ecstatic that that issue has been addressed.

Yeah. I wish I'd listened to their score on Pokémon Dash. That was a mistake-buy.

From the demo the only thing I can say that I REALLY dont like is that they changed the item find noise to something that just sounds wrong. Everything else is spot on to what Niode said. The score is amazing, the sword fighting takes time to get use to but is awesome. I even got use to the stamina system, though not rolling everywhere is a shame...

SKyward Sword is alot like Windwaker, it takes a bit to get use to, but it is a treat once you get into it. Hopefully the final battle will be as good as the one in Windwaker.

I don't understand? It's the same as it always has been, just in a slightly different instrumentation (as it always differs from game to game, but the core melody stays the same). The small item find is the same one from Wind Waker.

From the videos of the demo I have seen, it does sound different, but similiar. Maybe it's just because of the way the music is being play, different instruments.

SuperAnthony64 wrote:You gotta realize that game review sites cater to the "brogamers". Your typical COD player isnt going to run out Sunday morning and buy this game cause of two reasons. 1. Its on the Wii. 2. It isnt a HD game. This is why (IMO) this game got scored the way it did. They wanted to keep those "brogamers" coming back to the site saying Skyrim and COD are the best games this year.
Skyrim is really a bro game?

The instrumentation changes on every single Zelda game... I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Can we stop using the "bro" designation? It is even more irritating than the "hardcore" label. Believe it or not, some of us can enjoy the latest COD or Halo, Zelda or Mario, and niche Atlus or Xseed titles equally.
