I haven't seen anyone made fun because they dress differently, people have made fun of them because they dress poorly while thinking it looks good while ignoring severe practical concerns.
Except that it's not factually a poor choice of clothing. It's just an opinion. And as such everyone who has made fun of those particular people who like to wear those shoes is making fun of them because they dress differently.
General_Norris wrote:Also nobody ever said that anyone is inferior so don't get in there.
Several people used the word "stupid" (And other similar statements) to describe the pointy-shoe-wearing persons. As such, although they are not directly using the word inferior, they are in fact implying inferior intelligence (And therefor general inferiority).

As I said, I don't take art as something were "opinion" exists. I'm no relativist.

Also, no matter how you shoehorn it, "differently" and "in a manner I think as bad" are not the same. I don't wear t-shirts, I don't consider them bad even if they are different.

However I don't understand why you look for a "good 2D fighter" when what is good and bad is compeltely subjective or how is not contradictory for you to claim that the BEST game developed by Atlus is Persona 4.

I'm happy with you writting off my thoughts as an "opinion" if you apply the same logic to yours. Because you don't.

It's your fault if you consider dumb people "inferior" to smart people, not mine.

I can think less of men who have sex with other men. That doesn't make me any less of a dick. 8)

But you're discounting people who think for themselves and LIKE how the clothes look, for various reasons. And a well tailored suit isn't uncomfortable to wear, though it does cost more. You need to stop using this chain of logic:

I create my own conclusions => I think something is stupid => Thus, other people who create their own conclusions would think it is stupid

Because not everyone comes to the same conclusions that you do. Isn't free thought amazing?

Inazuma, you should allow the possibility that some people actually find suits comfortable (I won't comment on ties as that one I can not understand). It is not that hard to imagine considering some of them are *tailored* to fit the person.

About the social aspects of it, indeed it is a pity some people automatically think more of someone if they "dress smart" (I don't even like the expression), and indeed some genuinely smart people intentionally use that psychological flaw of that population (which I believe is the majority, and I think there are studies that back that up but I'm not looking for them :P ). For example, most con artists present themselves "dressed smart" and all smooth talking and get people to fall for their scams.

You shouldn't take it personal when someone tries that trick on you. It reflects bad on them and on the people that fall for it, not on you. Personally I can even find it somewhat funny. I still remember the smirk I couldn't contain when a salesman tried to pull the "your neighbour has one" trick on me!

General_Norris: LOTS of people think less of difference. It is a sad reality but it is a reality. Dressing differently is just the tip of the iceberg. I find it extremely hard to believe you haven't met people like that, maybe you just haven't noticed.

I think if I ever met Inazuma, I would wear a tie and suit whilst playing on my PS3, calling the Playstation 1 the PSX and telling him how Super Mario Bros. 2 is the best mario game ever, fully meaning the US and PAL version. I'd probably propose to my girlfriend in front of him too.

Maybe I'll right a top 10 list of things I'd like to do if I met Inazuma to piss him off. 10 entries might not be enough though.

Well, honestly, I think that's quite sad.

Now you're just playing with semantics.
It was quite obvious in the case of Persona 4 that I was only stating my opinion, even though I didn't waste my time to type out "Well, in my opinion..."
And the 2D fighter thread was made with the intention of asking other peoples opinions. Once again, I simply chose to not waste my time with the literal statement.
General_Norris wrote:I'm happy with you writting off my thoughts as an "opinion" if you apply the same logic to yours. Because you don't.
Well, here. Everything I ever say is only my opinion. Please do not be offended if it seems my intention is otherwise.
Ya fuckin' happy? I've gone and flat out stated something that I've always thought was pretty damn obvious to anyone who took the time to think about it for a second. Guess I was wrong.

At my last job, you HAD to wear a black suit, white shirt and tie. Wearing a blue dress shirt was a no no. White shirt + black suit = dressed for success in their minds. Now I can agree that isn't the most forward thinking company.

But currently, I work with an outfit that dresses biz-casual. I don't play golf, and it's not a sport I like, but now my only option is to really dress like I'm about to T-off. Fact of the matter is I would rather wear a suit and tie, because I find them more comfortable, and I look damned good in a suit.

Now that in mind I'm turning thirt-cough cough. Excuse me again. I'm celebrating a birthday tomorrow and I'll be wearing what I wear on stage which is a t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of Adidas shoes. And guess what? I look damned good in that too.

But I think Izzy is touching more on conformity than clothes. Conformity isn't always awesome, but neither is always going against it. Now this is not a jab at Izzy and I would believe he would agree with the statement that everyone who is trying to be different is still trying to be a part of a group. And hey, I'm for people having friends. The best times of our lives are seldom spent alone, and if you need to pierce something, wear something, listen to something, etc., if it makes you friends and in turn your life a happier one do it. Groupthink isn't always good, but group laughter sure is, and embracing others likes is a forward step in life.

But that said, don't drink like crazy and do drugs, that will make you stupid.
