That old CD player I had played whatever game disc I put it without blowing up. Granted I kept the volume really low to 'play it safe'. Of course it just sounded like static. Other players I tried just gave silence while the time counted up, so it was still going through the motions of playing.Anapan wrote:Back when I first got a Sega CD, my dad's friend wanted to try a game out on his entertainment unit's CD player. How would playing game data actually break a CD player?Hobie-wan wrote:That old CD player I had played whatever game disc I put it without blowing up. I know Sonic CD has already been mentioned, but I wanted to add that both the PC and SCD versions have music that can be played in a music player, not just the SCD version. Also, Cubix: Robot Racing for PS1 could do this, but the music was lame.

Castlvania: SOTN on PSX had one track I think.

Also edit: Sorry, just noticed someone already mentioned it.The original PlayStation version of Symphony of the Night includes an audio track featuring an arranged version of the tune "Dracula's Castle" called Alucard's Vengeance, which can be played on an Audio CD player after listening to Alucard's warning. Also, the PlayStation Version has an alternative ending originally coded for the game, but it was unused.

pretty much as far as i can tell. and those that dont usually have a 2nd track with a warning message telling you not to play the CD in an Audio CD player.d123456 wrote:I believe almost all "early" Sega Saturn games use redbook. Please verify.
The laters games in it´s lifespan probably don´t.
just got a few Saturn games recently and here's what ive found.
Full soundtrack:
Nights into Dreams
Christmas Nights
Sonic 3D
Fighting Vipers
Daytona USA
Actua Golf (1 Track)
Manx TT Super Bike
Sega Rally
Baku Baku
Impact racing
Warning Track:
Titan Wars
Crimewave
For the warning, they say "Warning. This CD is for use with a Sega CD system only"...Did they just rip the same message from all the old Sega CD games? Pretty funny!

That might be the coolest warning of all time haha.Anapan wrote:I found that Saturn warning track I was talking about:
Sega Saturn - Data Warning.mp3
"Kiss your tweeters good bye!"
Also I just checked my PC copy of Rayman and the audio can be played.

This was very common in the early days of cd based gaming... there are some that strike me, final fight CD was great, two of my alltime favourites are batman returns and sonicCD...lemmings on the pc was great, and then you have the amazing wipeout 2097 and 3, i liked ridge racer onthe ps1 also... sometimes i would swap the disc i put the fat of the land from prodigy... great days
