Game Discs with music that play on a regular CD Player

Game Discs with music that play on a regular CD Player

I always try to come out with a rare or "Hidden Gem" discovery. The recent top 100 Official, Unofficial Video Game Soundtracks and the Video Game Preservation articles got me thinking about some of my older PC games.

Older Game Discs that have music tracks that do not need any special programs to extract the music. These discs have the game data on track one, the remaining are music tracks in Redbook Audio easily played on a regular music CD player.

Feel free to post any game discs that have this, curious if some console games also have Redbook Audio music tracks.

Here's a couple PC Games to start the list:

PC Inferno - Ocean/D.I.D. Software

PC TFX - Ocean/D.I.D Software

I wrote an earlier post, so easier to update it and quote rather then writing all over again. This game soundtrack is still one of my favorites.

Many great DOS games forgotten, the reason I keep a separate DOS 6.22 removable drive. Wait a minute, they are on YouTube. However the original Game and Music CD do sound better.

A lot of the older PC CD games have actual music tracks that can be played on a regular CD player.

Click this and be blown away by this forgotten gem.

Crank up the volume on these.

One of the best Game Over death tune ever made.

A great DOS game called Inferno by Ocean, they also made TFX. I have the Tin Collectors box with the Flight Sim PC game CDs of Inferno and two versions of TFX.

Even more rare is the mail in Original Alien Sex Fiend Music CD. Now If I can only track down the PS1 version of TFX.

The forgotten games of DOS don't increase in money value but the great ones are a collector's value.

Here is TFX in Top Gun polygon VGA glory. "Looks like the Lizard!" Look for the newspaper clip of Stormin Norman and the camera pan float into Pilots seat.

The rare collector tin edition. The even more rare out of print music CD from Europe could only be acquired by a mail. The mail in coupon is only distributed with this collector's edition. The Game CDs also have music tracks.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy on ps1 has redbook audio tracks. I used to listen to it sometimes as a kid.

Wasn't every single Sega CD game like this?

Also Total Annihilation! Still one of Jeremy Soule's finest...

Shivers 2 for PC.

The second disc had about 8 tracks of music specifically created for the game iirc. Lost that game years ago though.

I believe almost all "early" Sega Saturn games use redbook. Please verify.
The laters games in it´s lifespan probably don´t.

I remember going through all my PS1 games one after another to see if there was any hidden music but for the life of me I can't remember which ones actually had some. Then I spent hours sticking my music cds in my PS1 for Monster Rancher.
