If you really liked REmake, I'd suggest playing as Chris sometime. The game is different enough on his playthrough to warrant another go.

As for RE2, I'd probably opt for the DC version. As far as I know, the GC and DC versions are just ports of the PSX DualShock edition, and the DC one is generally the most inexpensive one. I can't say much about the N64 version, I've never played it, but it does sound pretty interesting. I guess overall it comes down to what controller you favor.
I'm definitely gonna run it with Chris. Sometime soon.

I'll agree that the 64 version of RE2 sounds cool, and I don't really have a controller preference. All things considered though, I'll probably go the route of buying whichever version I come across first.

I just wanted to say that I'm happy to see you enjoyed Resident Evil. I've lurked on this thread for a while.

RE 2 is my favorite entry in the series. It was the first entry in the series I played, on my PSX back in the day, before there was a Dreamcast, or even an N64 version. It was one of the first games I got on my PSX in fact, along with Tomb Raider, Gex, Ridge Racer, and Crash Bandicoot. Back then, it freaking blew my socks off, as I used have a SNES then a Genesis and that's what I was used to.

Still, through all the years and versions of RE, I have still enjoyed the series. The only entry I plain didn't like was RE5, but that's a personal problem because I won't pay for XBox Live Gold and I hated the A.I. partner.

I haven't been able to play 5 yet. So you need to be playing with a human? Is the computer's A.I. that bad? And how long do you play with a partner (a.i. or otherwise)?

You have to play with a partner for the whole game. The AI really is dumb. I disliked the game mainly because of the terrible AI. If you do play it, play it with a human friend. Also dont go in with high expectations because this game is a disaster compared to RE4 imo.

EDIT: my opinon of the games (from what I've played) Re2 > Re1 > Re4 > Re0 > Re5. (haven't played Re3 of code veronica)

It really is that bad. Expect her to waste away your healing items, ammo, and just about everything. Don't give her stuff? Well too bad the inventories are so dinky tiny again. The game is overall a huge stepdown from RE4 in every single way. I can't even recall specific settings in RE5, when it comes to RE4 it's easy to remember the village, the castle, the hospital island, etc... RE5 was just bland and lifeless. Oh and Jill's blonde. /spoilers

You play with the partner throughout like 99% of the game.

You really will want to just play with a friend if possible. I though the partner system in RE0 was a lot better, which is kind of sad.

Anyways I really don't know which RE is my personal favorite. The original always seems a bit longer than the others to me, the mansion was the most complex building in the whole series, and it was just great. RE2 I think had the best and darkest atmosphere, you keep going underground, further and further... oh man, the music and vibe was so cool. RE3 gets a bit more slack but I still loved it, and I liked the isolated vibe of being trapped in the city all alone. Kind of reminds me of stuff in Half-Life or something, I dunno.

I don't understand the complaints. It worked for X-Men on the NES. That reminds me, I should go to the Nintendo board.

I should really get this, what are differences in PS2 Code Veronica?

On a semi-related, what are the add ons to PS2 Silent Hill Greatest Hits?
Not sure about what's added to the PS2 Code Veronica, as it's the only version I've played.

The PS2 Greatest Hits version of SH2 includes the extra features from the XBox port. They added a section where Maria is playable (it serves as a prologue to her storyline) and an extra ending. As far as I know that's all that's different.
A followup for Silent Hill, it contains an additional UFO ending and Born From a Wish scenario.

Yeah the Born From a Wish scenario is the Maria part I was talking about. I was unaware of the additional UFO ending though. Always loved Silent Hill's multiple endings (dog ending was just... classic).
