Games you WANT to like

Re: Games you WANT to like
I really want to like Bioshock. I love the setting of Rapture. I love the whole fallen utopia idea. I just find the gameplay to be either too cumbersome and boring, or too difficult. I go from fiddling around with some lameass pipe puzzle to "hack" into a bot, then I suddenly have to spring to action in some intense fight against a big daddy that I don't have enough ammo for. Then I'm always so focused on what I'm doing, I can never really attend to the story being told on the audio tapes. I really want to like the game and work my way through it, but I never feel motivated to play it, so it sits on my laptop taking up valuable hard drive space, but I don't want to uninstall it because I feel like I should like it enough to beat it once.

I really wanted to like Resident Evil 4. I tried to get into it a few times but every time I was turned off by the stupid tank controls. I prefer when the third-person characters control more like FPS's with dual-analog control.. like Max Payne, Gears of War and Dead Space.
"Welcome to the circus of values!"
Currently Playing: Crysis (360), Destiny demo (PS3), Roadblasters (MAME)

This, minus the part about wanting to like it.Weekend_Warrior wrote:I really wanted to like Resident Evil 4. Re: Games you WANT to like
Add me to the Metroid Prime crew. Great graphics and soundtrack, but I just find the actual content Reeeeeeeaally boring. No story, no characters, just you. On a planet. Going through corridors. Yet, I can't bring myself to sell it (or the sequel) since everyone seems to hold it in such high regard (including one of my best friends who always implores me to play it, and seems dismayed when I tell him I don't like it).
Quite a lot of people here seem to be mentioning it though, so maybe it's just not a good game in actuality?

It accuatly makes me frustrated that I dont "love" this game! LOL Its all about finding missle packs and energy tanks, but I dont get any new story along with those energy tanks. I think I can see why people like it, its a well designed game but it needs a good story (or at least I like to be fed one) for me to feel like I care about my character.
Re: Games you WANT to like
Add me to the list of people listing Metroid Prime...
Another one for me, is Starfox Adventures. When I first bought it when it was released, I thought it was disappointing and very average. Now, I actually HATE this game so much. It has got to be one of the most insanely irritating and annoying games I've ever played, and I'm not even entirely sure why
I just get this urge to throw my controller at the screen and smash the case everytime you get some lame little task to do, or when one of the characters opens their mouth.
I guess the main reason I want to like this game, is because, graphically it is absolutely gorgeous, and some parts of the game are incredibly well crafted and beautiful. I had also been anticipating this game for years, since the early stages of development on the N64 before changing to Starfox and being delayed for Gamecube. I remember when it came out it really divided critics (I saw scores ranging from 2/10 up to 9/10), and many people accused those of giving it a bad score, doing so because they were bitter about Rare leaving Nintendo. I have to say that is such a twisted accusation to make though, because it really is terribly flawed and, at times, really painfull to play.
I forced myself to complete it when it first came out all those years ago. Now, I've bought it again to see if it really was as bad as I used to think it was, but now I just cannot stand it. I doubt I can even bring myself to complete it again.

Re: Games you WANT to like
Any Game & Watch game - I used to really enjoy these, but they just all start so slowly that by the time they start getting challenging and fun, I've had enough.
Kuru Kuru Kururin (GBA) - I wanted to like this as i loved the concept and have been addicted to puzzle games recently, but i just found it kinda mundane.
Fire Emblem 9/10 (GC/Wii) - FE6,7, and 8 I love, but i didn't like the changed mechanics of these games at all. The animation was horrible too, i wish they'd just used 2D sprites rather than the wooden 3D models they had.
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GC) - I loved Friend of Mineral Townon GBA and was gutted to find that this harvest moon was similar only with less to do and more time to do it in. Dull.
All the Metroid Prime games (GC/Wii)- Couldnt get into them, despite loving the 2D ones. Unlike most, I kinda like Hunters though, I really enjoyed the multiplayer.
Custom Robo Arena (DS) - The battles were fun, but there was nothing more to it and i got bored after a few hours.
Final Fantasy 1-4 - (NES/SNES) I like RPGs, but I really struggle with early ones, they just feel so grindy and overly simple, and extend their lifespan by just not giving you any clues as to where to go.
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks (DS) - Liked the concept, liked the implimentation of the controls, liked some of the puzzles, couldn't help feeling they were Zelda-Lite, and werent meant for gamers who'd played Zelda countless times before.
Yoshi's Island DS - I don't even know what was really wrong with this one, it just didn't feel that fun.
Faselei! & SNK vs Capcom: Cardfighters Clash (NGPC) -Both have been suggested as excellent games for NGPC and yet i cant see the appeal. SNKvsC:CC seemed fun, but pales in comparison to Pokemon TCG on GBC, which is more fun because its sightly more complex, and Faselei just seems kinda slow paced and uninteresting to me.
Ristar (MegaDrive) - Really wanted to like this, really didnt. It feels cheap in places, its sooo slow (Especially as i have it in 50hz) and it just doesnt feel very charming to me.
A Boy and His Blob (Wii) - Wantedto love it, couldnt get into it. I guess i can try again later
New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii) - Loved the DS one, didn't enjoy this one at all. Felt like it was made for multiplayer, yet multiplayer feels broken and doesnt really work. weird screen zoom means the leading player walks into enemies and pits he cant see, and the following players get caught on scenery and killed by screen scroll, or get in each others way and fall into a pit. No wonder it gives you so many lives ¬_¬
