FYI, I am one and also involved in social work where I deal with victims of pedophilia regularly (although that is not the main issue when I deal with them). My opinion of pedophilia (it is always wrong) is much the same as it was before, but my emotions surrounding it have changed.crux wrote:I've alluded from other posts that you aren't a father, but if you are feel free to correct me.
I still think emotion plays a factor in the opinion here, no matter what the opinion is. If you have the means to fight such a powerful figure, then it probably is best to do so in order to let justice be served. But, if the situation is evaluated and you conclude that you would be unable to properly fight this case without risking your child's future, what is best; to lose all savings and possibly career fighting something that very well might be lost, or to walk away with a large compensation and have the celebrity in question suffer public shame and a very damaged career and reputation no matter what happens? I do agree that the offender DESERVES to be behind bars, but I am trying to say that a decision should be based on probable outcome. That is something very difficult to do when personal emotions guide your actions.I'm able to try to imagine my own children in the horrific position of being molested by someone with the financial means to give a large compensation.
If the case if reviewed and you can get a lawyer to work pro bono for you (I have no idea about this stuff, to be honest!), then it is probably worth pursuing. As for pedophiles, the situation hardly matters. The fact is, statistics show that criminal pedophiles are highly likely to repeat their crimes. High profile cases means high profile lawyers on both sides. The best lawyers in the country will gladly work pro bono for such a media intensive trial. That isn't to say that the case couldn't be one-sided, but if I was the father of a molested child, you'd better damn well believe I'd do whatever I could to ensure that the person responsible is not only reprimanded, but most importantly is put on a list of sex offenders so that they're limited from getting close to children ever again.
Know that I am not disagreeing with your morals here. I'm just coming from a different perspective I think.

News Flash.
As this photo suggests, Micheal Jackson never molested children. Rather, he just couldn't find adults to play video games with him, but kids thought his arcade was "Bad".
Man, Sonic really let himself go in that pic. I'd like to think his early success caught up with him, he started binge drinking after Sonic & Knuckles, but got back in shape for Sonic Adventure.
