Hmm, interesting.

I'd pay extra for the case/manual, but it's not the end of the world if they're not there.

I always try to get cases and instructions, if they are nopt there I normally pass on them.

As for checkign discs, you need to do this with new games as well!

I got my resident evil 5 for the 360, the shop I got it from breaks the seal and removes the discs before sale so some monkey had dropped it or whatever before I got my hands on it, after 5 different discs and sour faced bitch serving me I finally got one which was fine. On chapter 5-1 it froze and said disc dirty or damaged on my elite, had to put it in my sisters 60gb amnd got by that bit and it was fien on mine again.

doesn't take much for a disc not to be read right.

Not having the original inserts in the game case will generally push me towards not purchasing a game. I don't really give a rip about manuals; I never open them unless a game has some crazy interface or battle system.

I can tolerate the lack of an original case or manual if the title is hard to find and the disc is in great shape.

It's been stated in this thread already but I cannot understand how some of the discs end up in the shape they do. I've seen countless GS discs with enough scratches, pitting and palm grease to make you wonder if they spent most of their life on a McDonald's kitchen counter. I could understand if these were butchered Madden titles but we are talking about wonderful, rare games. I too (again, as stated before) have games that I have had for 14 years or longer that are immaculate. These same games have seen countless trips to parties and have, in many cases, outlived the consoles they were released for. Mind boggling...

Trust me I don't like doing it and avoid to whenever possible but if our district manager comes in and sees a wall full of like new used games we get written up.

Plus over time I've learned some tricks to get off any sticker without fail in about 1-5 minutes, depending on how old or badly the sticker is placed.

Also always ask to see the disc, company policy is if the customer is interested in a used game the employee must show them the disc if asked.

Most large GameStop stores are simply concerned with doing the most trade they can to beat their numbers from that day the year before. The smaller hole in the wall GS are where you'll usually get higher quality used stuf as corporate doesn't care nearly as much.

This message could NOT be said any better than that. THe big gamestop here...will tell you ANYTHING to not have to work. Just like the adapter i needed..."nope thats a hack" ...please. Now this is the biggest store around me....so you would THINK they would be...well...better business people. I go to a middle of no where gamestop and everything is great. THis gamestop has also sold me 2 "new" games that of course were...opened. I can goto the middle of no where...its always sealed. As far as being anal about my games...i still have a sega with the original paperwork STILL sealed with the original tape on the bag....that anal enough for ya ;)

I've bought a ton of terrible games for the Saturn so I can replace the cracked cases on my good games. I seem to only care about the condition of the game if it's something I actually take pride in owning. To be more specific, I'll buy an old sports game without its case if I really want it, or an NES game missing half its lable. However, I've walked away from great deals in the past because of photocopied cases, like $5 for Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for Xbox for $10.

It depends. Some of my rarer games I am so anal about I dont even let them see the light of day - ie Radiant Silvergun and Perfect Cherry Blossom. They stay sealed away in sterilite containers (for those of you who dont know about those - think big plastic box) with the air sucked out and padded. Damn near my entire Saturn collection is stored that way, along with my boxed SNES games. The rest of my collection travels so I am not worried about its condition, as long as it works.

I prefer consoles to be in good condition cosmetically and for labels to be on the games, but not always the case. I am going to replace all disc based games with backups by the end of this year so as they are completed, those to will end up in sterilite containers. Once every thing is a backup/perfect burn, then all I will have to worry about is theft...

I bought a copy of LAIR at GameSlop and there were 10, TEN fucking stickers on the game! 3 of them were on the case insert itself! I had to take a sharpie to the artwork to make the damage look less obvious. What the hell? Why did no one try to take some of the stickers off, I mean, if there's some sticky residue left, it's just sitting on another sticker and under another one.

Back on topic: I will not buy a game without the manual, case, insert artwork, etc. When I pay $20-$50 for a game, I better have the whole damn package.
