Fuck that term. It's been used so lightly over the past few years that it means absolutely nothing anymore. PLAYING CALL OF DUTY EXCLUSIVELY DOES NOT MAKE YOU "HARDCORE".
Gaming accomplishments:
Nibbler (marathon): 251,169,160 / Nibbler (one life): 5,263,360 (WR)
Donkey Kong: 423,100 [L12-1] (150th place as of 2019-01-15)
Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ranked top 5 in Wisconsin from Q1 2016 to Q2 2017
Shrek SuperSlam: won largest tournament in game's history (Shrekfest 2018)

Noise, did you look at my Summer Gaming Challenge list? Only one Pokemon game out of 12, and it's not even a main series game.

yeah but let's be honest, just cuz you put those games on a list doesn't mean you won't just play Pokemon Pinball instead. :lol:

I agree, I am using it for a lack of better term (and I consider "core" to be just a shortened version). By "hardcore" I am referring to folks who regularly buy at least one-two new games a month, follow gaming news closely, play a variety of genres, etc. I too think it is a dumb term.

What would you call a gamer that is supposed to find the second trailer on this page appealing (http://www.neoseeker.com/news/16627-e3- ... -round-up/)?

What, is there some kind of stigma against pokemon games :lol: .

I do agree about the casual and hardcore thing, I hate even putting them in sarcastic quotes like I've been doing, but I'm not sure how to convey the message otherwise. Upscale and downscale could work, but nobody would really understand what I'm talking about.

Just because you have a massively capable GPU in a system doesn't mean that it has to run at full capacity all the time. The power is there if you need it is all.

Consider how nice a lot of Gamecube and Wii games look running at HD resolutions via Dolphin. Still the same game assets.

I'm not saying that the costs for making a game that takes full advantage of better hardware don't go up. They do. A lot. I just don't think it's a direct result of the hardware itself. Better hardware just means more can be done.

'course, the fewer studios that can afford to produce games that actually take advantage of the hardware, the less important it becomes to keep increasing the capability of it. I don't think we're at that point yet - games on the PS3/360 can still do better using effectively the same assets. More power can be used to run them at true 1080P (or higher), to apply more effects, to increase framerate (especially if you consider the frames they'd need to pump out for 3D), all that - basically, run them like a PC can run them now >_>;

At this point, I'm getting slightly confused, it seems like we're mixing and mingling arguments for two things.

Does the WiiU appear to have what it takes to be a quality, fun console.

Is the WiiU going to succeed in the "Upscale Fishing" mission, and will it sell well in general?
