this is the greatest announcement of 2015 so far:

Image
Sean S. Cunningham, the creator of Friday The 13th, has announced via EGM that a new video game based on the series is in development, aiming for an October 2015 release on “multiple platforms.”

According to the reveal, the game, which appears to be tentatively title Friday The 13th The Video Game, has been envisioned as a “multiplayer predator/prey horror experience,” with a group of players taking on the role of (what we can safely assume will be) archetypal teenagers trying to survive against a player who, as Jason, is hunting them. This “one vs. many” style of multiplayer is a de rigueur design, with the upcoming Evolve, Fable Legends, and BioWare’s Shadow Realms running on a similar conceit

I'm cautiously optimistic about Life is Strange, which looks like Square-Enix's attempt at making a Tell Tale game.

Yeah. Same dev as Remember Me. It looks cool, but I'll wait until all ep's are out before investigating.

I've taken the time to consider some stuff.

Project CARS: It will be interesting to see if this fills the void left where Gran Turismo should be on PS4. It also is coming out for the Wii U which is nice because Nintendo has had a rather alarming dearth of 3rd party games, let alone serious racing titles. It looks good as we can see from the PC builds so far but it will be interesting to see how the console versions all turn out.

Hotline Miami 2: HM remains my favorite indie game to date. The fever-dream feel and excellent gameplay left a serious impression on me. I look forward to more.

Bloodborne: Dark Souls is by all accounts a game I should have loved but didn't. I haven't a clue if Bloodborne will change how I feel about this style of game but I love the aesthetic I've seen so far and if it's anywhere close to as mechanically sound as the Souls games it'll be a winner? I like Monster Hunter's combat a lot so it's strange how I don't enjoy From's Souls games more. They're quite similar in many ways. Hm.

Mortal Kombat X: I liked 9 a whole hell of a lot so I'll be picking this up for sure. Certainly looks cool.

Batman Arkham Knight: I think the series is still moving in the wrong direction. Say what you will about City and Origins but both times the game has become more open and worse for it. At the very least we'll get Rocksteady's excellent storytelling. We'll see how it turns out.

Metal Gear Solid 5: MGS isn't my favorite series but I've made it through the first and fourth games, watched a play through of 2, and will probably watch 3 as well. They make good movies. This is good because routinely the games are as much movies as they are excellent stealth games. Call it nostalgic but one of my most vivid memories of the PS3 was marathoning through MGS4 on the weekend it came out. In case you don't know, the game is about 18 hours. So roughly 6 hours a day when I got it. Being 14 was great. I have my doubts it'll make it out by the end of 2015 but who knows. Kojima likes to surprise people after all. All I know is I do, in fact, eagerly await the 5th installment. I ought to play Ground Zeroes at some point before it comes out.

No Man's Sky: will be interesting to experience. It's quite a leap from the Joe Danger series. I'm going into it with no expectations and I think that's the only way you wont be disappointed with it since there is so much hype surrounding it that it will never live up to. I re-watched the original trailer and man what an incredible looking thing it is though.

Evolve: will probably not be anything close to what I want it to be. It certainly wont be another Natural Selection 2. It might scratch that itch a little bit though. I appreciate asymetric design but I also feel like this game in particular will be hard to balance. From the alpha impressions it appears those fears are legitimate.

The Witcher 3: I love The Witcher 2 with all my heart but I can't help but feel it will suffer what the Arkham series has suffered which many other series have suffered as well. I can't stand open world games as a general rule. I much prefer a focussed, tailored environment. This is not the same as wanting a linear game though and that's a distinction I feel like I always have to point out to people who think that because a game is open world it's any less linear than a game like Half Life 2. Plenty of open world games amount to having just as little choice and diversity as their "linear" counterparts but with the added feature of large soul-less environments, worse graphical overhead, and long travel times. Much like Kingdoms of Amalur, The Witcher 2, and Fable I like my action RPGs with enough room to maneuver around in but not so much as to be mind-numbing to traverse. I don't want a foot-deep ocean. I'd much rather a reservoir leagues deep. We'll see how it turns out.

And really, that's about all I have my eye on. No doubt games will come out of nowhere as the year goes on and hopefully there will be lots of cool and interesting things to play. As it stands, kind of pessimistic about the big ones this year aren't I? I have no hope for things like The Division and the new Rainbow Six but only time will tell.

Main ones are Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight. Seen a lot of them now but they look incredible. High hopes. Also looking forward to whatever Miyamoto has cooked up for Starfox U. It's been so long at this point I'd buy it day one even if it was just a zazzed up Lylat Wars port. Also eagerly anticipating Star Wars Battlefront 3 (as long as it isn't a 100% tie in with Force Awakens) and Metal Gear Solid 5 much more since playing Ground Zeroes.

Indie side, Hotline Miami 2 and Cuphead look swell. There's also a kickstater game, Kingdom Come which is sort of indie but is quite a large project. Looks interesting.

it looks neat but i doubt i will have time to play it. it seems like one of those games that you have to get in from the beginning to really appreciate it, and i don't do online multiplayer really.

I read something on it recently that said it was supposed to have a decent single player campaign. Is this not true? I may pass it up then.

This IS a single player game, don't know if they add multiplayer.
After being dissapointed by dead island and the game being 8 gen only is off my radar until i see reviews of the game. On other note i think this could be the game i wanted dead island to be.

Here's some gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2TSCZqcjR0
