The 2DS clearly isn't for anyone like us who visits gaming forums and is generally in the know. Much like the Wii Mini or the 12GB PS3, it's for the more casual buyer who sees a super low price tag and makes an impulse purchase or buys one as a gift for a child. I can imagine these things selling quite good this holiday as parents are shopping, especially if it comes up in a $100 black friday deal of some kind.

That being said, I don't think it's that ugly. Looks like a taller GBA with two screens. And anybody who plays a handheld without headphones is doing it wrong anyway.

Me too. I was interested until I saw the thing.

Regardless I don't find it offensive or anything. It's a budget system it's not meant to be an upgrade to the current one. I've been wanting to get into the 3DS and I'd think about it if this were closer to $100.

Why is it, "clearly," not for anyone like, "us?" What is with the us vs them mentality? This is nothing like the Wii Mini. The limited functionality is on the 3D only, a feature that excluded some people and, from the opinions of many people who own the system, don't really care about. The 3D isn't a selling point for the system. With the Wii Mini, you lose real features like backwards compatibility and online functionality. You do not lose that with the 2DS.

It is/was supposed to be. But I don't think it really is anymore besides in the name '3DS'.

Either way, the 2DS is not for me. And the name will confuse parents greatly but probably end up selling just fine. $130 vs $200 for a Vita.. Mmm.

maybe Sony will release a small form factor Vita with one analogue stick for $150 to compete.

It isn't anymore. How did the system do when it initially launched? Just ok. Were the games that were released known for their use of 3D? No. The strong library is really what sells the system now, a library that people enjoy because of the great gameplay, not because of the 3D visuals.

The price cut is what made people buy it. Pretty evident in its sales history.

Maybe an us vs them mentality isn't so far off, because you have to look at games far differently than the casual consumer to think that 3D is not a selling point for the 3DS.

I only use the 3D once per game. I'm curious what it looks like in 3D and then I turn it off. :P
