Gamestop selling "vintage" games online in the near future
Re: Gamestop selling "vintage" games online in the near futu
I'm happy on this. I bet as soon as online always sells out on retro games they are going to ship vintage games to a few stores to test the market. And as soon as they see numbers jump its going worldwide. Funcoland may soon be back and prices are going to drop on small independant stores who sell retro games. That's my take. I'm glad too because I want to pick up some snes stuff at my store I go to and games are mostly 10-50 and up. The sports are even 4 or 5 dollars. That's why I was just sticking with genesis but even they are going up on prices. So for me i'm happy

I am all for this....although it will decrease the rare factor of some games, it will subsequently make them more accessible for more old school fun.

I've been asking my managers almost every month about this and none of them seem to know when this will happen.

Maybe rarity was a poor choice of wording, but it will decrease the difficulty of getting some games from having to look for them at a local store or garage sale to searching on gamestop's website for the nearest gamestop which has it. Of course for those who buy from ebay, it may make no difference to them.

My best guess is that this all hinges on how the next generation of consoles goes. If Sony and/or Microsoft block used games, GS will probably try to make up for the lost money by carrying retro games. If used games are A-OK for next-gen, then this will just have been smoke and rumors.

Well the way it seems MS and Sony will block used games, Gamestop will still be able to sell them, but at a much lower rate. I've heard that the way they will block used games is similar to how they block multiplayer in some games, with a code. So if you buy the game used and want to play multiplayer, you need to spend $10 buying the code. So Gamestop could still carry these games, but they have to sell them for much lower, like usually a brand new game that just came out is $60, Gamestop sells for $55-$50. If it is one with that multiplayer code they sell for around $47-$43 dollars.
I think they are more likely to go vintage if everything becomes digital download only.
