Personally I have always viewed it as a racing platformer, like Pandemonium. Which, while I applaud the genius of the style, Ive never really enjoyed.

I think I might've mentioned it in another thread but yeah... I don't think I'd call NiGHTs a platformer.Opa Opa wrote:NiGHTS is a platformer??
Don't really know what I'd call it.

Re: Nights HD announced
First time I played I didn't think much of it NiD other than it was a neat concept. Then a couple years later I decided to give it another try but this time get all "A" score's instead of the just the passing "C's" to unlock some content. Once I was good enough to pull off non-stop combo's it was like I was playing a totally different game. Instead of awkward flying it was now a swift fluid motion and it made the game fun! Adding that plus the environment, aerial tricks, music, and boss fights it became one of my all time favorite games.equalsign wrote:I'm with you there actually. I was super disappointed by the game. I normally consider platformers one of favorite genres, too.dsheinem wrote:Sometimes I feel like the only one on the forum that thinks Nights is a poorly-controlling and uninteresting also-ran platformer. Great music, though.
I'll probably take a chance on this when it goes on sale to give it another shot, but I've just never understood the appeal of the original game...
So a second chance ended up making a world of difference for me on NiDs.
Now Nights: Journey of Dreams on the other hand......... lol
Beer it go good with pizza
Re: Nights HD announced
I did give it another try and got mostly A's if I remember correctly. It just didn't work for me. The graphics were one of my biggest problems with the game, so maybe the HD rerelease would make the game more enjoyable. To me, that was one seriously ugly game. It was distracting, and really hurt my experience.

Ok so seriously bad graphics? lol Are you trolling or serious? Im really asking not trying to argue cause Nights into dreams had outstanding beautiful graphics and in fact was one of the more beautiful game's on Saturn.equalsign wrote:I did give it another try and got mostly A's if I remember correctly. Im not sure if you were old enough to experience the game when it came out but back then that was top notch and really still holds up till this day besides maby a bit of pixels during the cut scenes. To call that game ugly is honestly ridiculousness and borderline insulting but everyone is entitled to there opinions.
Nights really showed off what saturn could do along with Panzer dragoon and dragonforce

Good for the system does not equal good overall. I still argue that Nights is very overrated in the graphics department, the draw distance is trash, about the only nice thing is the stable framerate. The original Panzer Dragoon was pretty terrible as well. Panzer Dragoon Zwei was relatively a damn good looking game however.dreamcast4ever83 wrote:Ok so seriously bad graphics? lol Are you trolling or serious? 3D from that era is generally ugly, and I certainly don't blame him for being turned off by it, though I never found them overly distracting.

You know what bothers me. Back in the day no one coplained about all these thing people do today. I personally feel like with technology the way it is now the new generation of gamer's have become whinny and know-it-alls. Like they could have done better. When i played these game when they came out no one complained much they just had fun and were not overly technical with everythingRyaNtheSlayA wrote:Good for the system does not equal good overall. The fact is when i play nights Im not thinking about draw distance or any of these thing that people point out as a flaw. Sure I can if i want nit-pick all these things but why bother if when im playing the game im having a blast. i would have an issue with every game cause none are perfect .
There is nothing wrong with nights or Panzer dragoon infact part of what make's them so special was the complicated stature of the Sega Saturn and how they had to work around it and there limititaions. while by today's standards they may not have looked perfect they were special and unlike anything I have seen. Sometimes flaws are what makes something beautiful. unlike today back then the so-called ugly 3d games you speak of left room for imagination to still kick in.
Today were forced to like it or not and only see what the developers intend for us.
Panzer looked great for the hardware limitations and mixed with the 2d they used in layers for the water effect it was quite magical and the Playstation was not able to duplicate that.
I just can't believe all the nit-picking. Im just excited that a new generation of gamer's get to play this game and see what really gameing was like without hagveing to have perfect graphics.
I can name a million shooter today that look outstanding and half of them while may not have any bugs somehow still suck ass.
That my opinion and im sticking to it
now let's show Sega some love for bringing back this classic. They may not be exactly what they were back in the day but there trying damn hard to make there fans happy.
Also 3d was not ugly at all maby to your eyes today but back then no one knew better and was amazing just to have 3d and i'll take classic over new games any day of the week.
I really feel sometimes like i have nothing in common with most of todays generation untill sometimes i meet someone really cool
