New PAL Turbografx consoles
Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
Doesn't that mean PAL Turbografx is a clone? I haven't heard NEC admit to producing the hardware.

They did, the motherboard has NEC markings on it and everything. NEC themselves don't have to say anything, heck they don't seem to mention the TG-16 at all on their website.theclaw wrote:Doesn't that mean PAL Turbografx is a clone? I haven't heard NEC admit to producing the hardware.

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
Just to add a bit to this thread, and maybe clear up a few things for those that might be interested
The PC Engine AV cable does not fit the PAL Turbo AV port.
PAL AV cable is on the left of the pic.

The PAL Turbografx system can definitely play CD games. Those that perhaps think otherwise is probably because of mis-information they've read somewhere.
And, I've noticed no audio sync problems whatsoever when playing any type of CD based game. Unless I'm tone/sync deaf, I'll stand by this point.
Both the US and Japanese CD units, via the Turbo CD attachment, work 100% with the PAL Turbografx console.

The AC Adapter I used to power up both the PAL unit and the CD portion, is this,

And just for interests sake, here is the Adapter that came with the PAL Turbografx console,

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
I'm really happy to see someone has tested the CD unit with a PAL TG16. Next question: Do the CD games play in 50hz when run through the PAL turbo?

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
The gameplay is timed to the refresh rate of the console. It's 50hz timing.alienjesus wrote:I'm really happy to see someone has tested the CD unit with a PAL TG16. Next question: Do the CD games play in 50hz when run through the PAL turbo?
Which has now confused me also as to why I've not so far had any audio sync issues
Edit:
I found this,
I'll test a few more games and see what I find.some games use the TIMER interrupt for music timing/temp/speed. So for those games, music should be correct (or very close too it). Any music engine that uses V-int instead (50hz vs 60hz), then it'll be noticeably slower.

Those converters are more expensive than the system. You'd be better off just buying a PC-Engine if playing PC-Engine games is your goal. Of course there's that whole power-plug problem in Europe, isn't there? I don't know if there's a work around on that or not since I don't have that issue in the U.S.Curlypaul wrote:Well I've learnt something, I always assumed that the TG was the 8bit predecessor to the 16. So if I get one of these the US games will work with it and if I can find a Hu card convertor I can play the PC engine games on it. Thats def worth a purchase I reckon.

Are you playing only games with CD audio? It's very unlucky they'd slow redbook down to 50hz.Thierry Henry wrote:The gameplay is timed to the refresh rate of the console. The converters seem to go for around £70 here, which is pretty expensive, but a PC-engine is going to cost me around double that. I know they are quite cheap in the US, but not here.BurningDoom wrote:Those converters are more expensive than the system. The power issue adds to the cost a bit, but not much. I can get a step down converter for about £10.
I'm quite happy with the US library tbh, there are some great looking games missing but there are still a load that I'm interesting in playing and can't play on anything else so I'm still pleased with the purchase.

You do realize that PC Engines are from Japan, right? They aren't "quite cheap" in the US compared to anywhere else.Curlypaul wrote:BurningDoom wrote:...but a PC-engine is going to cost me around double that. It's cheaper to buy a PC Engine and get it region modded, to be honest.
