As far as I know, when Sony first released the PS3 and the memory card adapter, you were only able to transfer saves from a PS1 or PS2 memory card to the PS3 hard drive, but you were unable to transfer saves back to the memory cards. I read a review on Amazon that said that a certain PS3 update now enables the feature to write PS2 saves from the PS3 hard drive back to a PS2 memory card. The review did not specify the same feature for PS1 cards, but I assume you can write to those as well. I just haven't bothered to Google it.
I just checked the Wiki page and it confirms my assumptions.
I'd assume it works flawlessly, at least I would hope so for the price they charge. I read that the adapter doesn't even come with a USB cable. Lame.
I'd be interested to get one, less for playing my PS1 save files on my PS3, but as a nice way to backup the save files on my memory cards. Especially if the cards become full.

Re: PS2 still being sold
Ziggy I can tell you for a fact that I've moved PS2 saves from my PS3 to my PS2 using that thing.
I'll check PS1 for you tomorrow, K?
