There's an app called Steammover for things like that. I personally love Steam. I love seeing that giant list of games to play or that Half-Life 2 is still there even though I bought it years ago.

Steam is very easy to shift to another drive. There are instructions here, but essentially it's just moving the directory where you want it, deleting support files, and running Steam from the new location. It rebuilds things based on its new home, and you're good.

Now, splitting a collection between drives, that's a bit more involved, but the aforementioned utility can do it for you.

I understand both sides of the argument, but, I have about 80-100 retro games on my shelf right now. Many people even have more than that... and I think it takes up way too much room.

I like how Steam lets my friends connect and immediately join games I'm playing. I like the community services and friend system. I like the fact that there are tons and tons of games, old and new, right at my fingertips. I like that it keeps them all patched and updated without me having to worry about it...

and of course, I like the sales too.

Also if you hate Steam, there are plenty of clients that provide a different way of doing things. There's the mediocre Origin obviously, but then there are services like GamersGate which basically work like physical PC copies that you can easily burn to a disk with a note file containing the CD key. Then for retro stuff there's always GoG, which is DRM free and totally rad.

While I can certainly understand people that like to keep their physical collections that they can trade and sell them off, I really really like digital distribution. There are pros and cons to each, but I think the pros outweigh the cons in most good services.

I know I'm just repeating what I said about the possibility of a GOG client but I'm hoping that in the near future there'll be a way to have these services interface with each other. Adding Non-Steam Game isn't a very attractive option.
