This is the sticking point for that. Lucas actively destroyed as many prints of the original, non-SE versions of the films as he could get back. He refused to budge on releasing those versions of the film in any form for years.

He caved a little bit to overwhelming fan pressure in 2006 by releasing them as bonus DVDs, but even those were shoddy ports of non-anamorphic laserdisc masters.

Really, I think if the originals were actually released in a respectable way (like some nice new transfers for blu ray or something) it'd quiet down a good chunk of people.

Really, a better question would be "What things have GOOD fanbases?"

TBH, people whining about bronies has gotten worse than the bronies themselves. Not on this site specifically, but just in general.

Truth. ...and I've never even watched the show. (My girlfriend loves it though and keeps trying to get me to watch it with her).

They usually seem to keep to themselves and rarely cause trouble.

I think that the problem with Lucas' revisionism is that he worsens the movies. Really, Greedo shooting first is not only poorly made from a technical standpoint but it's also bad for the plot and characters as space opera characters.

However, no matter if you take Star Wars the correct way or not, the Attack of the Clones love scenes were horrible! :(

What the hell? He DESTROYED the original film prints? What is he, a moron?

Goddamn, I didn't know that.

Concerning fanbases, the Super Smash Bros is a pretty bad one. In a perpetual civil war between themselves, lots of drama over nothing, scared of every stage that is not perfectly flat...It's probably the worst competitive gaming community around.

I also find Miyazaki's fanbase to be pretty tough to swallow as they tend to dimmis every other kind of animation. They dimiss Disney who in turn dimiss the Warner's who in turn dimiss the rest. Ugly stuff!

Boardgaming also has a somewhat ugly community. For some reason everyone feels the need to defend their own gaming choices by putting down everything else. You have the Eurogamers calling Thematic games "mindless dicefests" while they get called fun hating snobs in return. You have people who complain about games lasting too long or being too short to be a good game. You have people who play their games once and people who don't play at all. Bad community as a whole tough it has it's brillant spots.

I haven't found bronies to be annoying, I barely hear of them, the people who complain about them is, tough, far more prevalent.

I agree that Xbox fanboys hate everyone. Much worse than any other videogame fanboys.

That's too true, I like XBOX, but th fanboys do drive me nuts, I hate it most when an XBOX fanboy is also a CoD fanboy, too.

It's one thing to be critical. Everyone has a right to their own reasonable opinion, so if you don't like what Lucas does, that's your perogative. I'm going to assume that's probably your position. To suggest that people can't be critical of an artist or his work is to be a whole other kind of fanboy that I can't tolerate.

But to say that George Lucas has no right to do what he wants with his own story and to try to improve his own work? Sorry, but as a fan I find that conceited and unreasonable, and as an aspiring artist I find it completely abhorrent--and unfortunately that happens to be the stance of a lot of self-righteous fans I've talked to. That is what I was being critical of.

@AppleQueso & General_Norris: I hate to mention being an aspiring artist again already, as I usually like to keep quiet on that, but this is another area where it helps me understand the artist's perspective. While I too find it frustrating that Lucas would destroy older versions of his work--especially when it has so much cultural significance by now--I have on occasion destroyed my own older work when I felt it was inferior. Artists of any type, as a rule, tend to be very self-conscious about their own work. A good artist may be proud of his abilities, but is never happy with them. There is always a temptation to hide or destory work that reminds you of your own percieved flaws and failings. I cannot expect George Lucas to be any different.

Truth. Or when they wear the headband and call it a costume.

My fav to hate on.

Neo-Geo fanboys or Neo-heads are pretty hardcore. I got no hate for SNK(P), but to forgo all other arcade stuff and stick exclusively to one relatively small library of titles...well, I guess that is the definition of fanboy.

Of course I'm a pretty hard Turbo-head. PC Engine for life!
