Re: Steam questions

Post by ZenErik »

I pirate a ton of stuff, but I generally use it to try before I buy. I'm not really trying to justify how I use piracy and say it isn't wrong. However, it helps me spend my money just a little bit more wisely. (I still waste a lot of money collecting...)

well i really do that too. but i do feel i try a lot more than i buy.

i would hope the designers of the games would rather have someone enjoy their art than not have people play it at all due to a lack of funds. If a designer is in the industry to make money then they are in the industry for the wrong reasons. Yes, everybody wants to be paid for their work but I truly believe that a true artist (game designer, musician, etc) is more interested in seeing people enjoy their work even if they cannot (yet) afford it.

Of all the half-assed justifications for piracy, this one irks me the most. For some reason, artists/musician/game developers who produce things that amaze and impress us and provide us with great joy get met with this obnoxious attitude that all of their hard work should only be rewarded with attention and appreciation. Nobody goes into a restaurant and tells the cook that they really enjoyed his meal, so they've decided to stiff him the bill because their enjoyment should be all he cares about or else he is in the culinary business for the wrong reasons.

I don't have hard & fast opinions about piracy, but this rationale pisses me off. It's so bizarrely arrogant and self-entitled to think that your attention/appreciation of a product or service is of such great importance that no financial compensation is necessary.

look if there are enough anti-pirates to flood this thread then may i have your attention to show you this.

if your morals disagree with piracy then there, you shouldn't even be on a forum where the creator sell piracy tools and encourages them. look you might be thinking; it must be alright since it is just one thing, but in fact we have a whole forum dedicated to hacking systems.

should I not play imports or retro games because they were never translated and sold in my country? should I not play Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower just because they are not going to be released in the us?

how many of you have played snatcher, chrono trigger, earthbound or ogre battle on a real piece of media? and how many have played them on emulators and beaten them but never actually had the $80 to shell out for a real cart?

No, I have nothing against you playing them. I just want you to pay for them before you play, even if that means importing. Stealing stuff from other countries that isn't available here is still stealing.

I own both Chrono Trigger and Earthbound in physical form. I want Snatcher real bad, but I'm not playing it until I have $250 to shell out for it. I'd love to play it, but the fact that it's hard to get doesn't make it ok for me or anyone else to pirate it.

im pretty sure Hideo Kojima would rather have you play his masterpiece that never play it at all because it didn't sell well in your country.

I really doubt that. Read "The mystery code frequency" section in this article: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/gamings-mos ... 628047/p-2

I for one think this a completely valid way of dealing with pirates.

All of those made me smile. Especially the first one.

Not that I claim to be a saint or have been clean in the past, but improving one's self is a good thing. On the moral scale though, pirating recent games that are still on the market versus ones for discontinued consoles are very different shades.
should I not play imports or retro games because they were never translated and sold in my country? should I not play Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower just because they are not going to be released in the us?
Hacking or importing a console to play games you have actually purchased is also very different than hacking a console and then only playing ROMs or ISOs.

Personally only CT interests me out of that lot. I haven't gotten to it yet, but when I do I'm ready.
