Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Wait, what?

It costs the studios nothing.
I think he meant that streaming cuts in to studio's DVD sales a lot more than the studios expected.
Exactly. This also applies to premium channels. Netflix got streaming rights for Starz for the first year or two for only like 25 million dollars. This was a great deal for Netflix, but a bad one for Starz, which I believe lost subscribers.

I got my email from NetFlix the other day and had to ignore it, I couldn't be bothered with the thought at the time. But yeah, I'm pissed. I have the 2 DVD plan, $15/month I think. If I wanna keep DVDs and streaming, it's gonna be like $20/month I think. Fuck that. The streaming is awesome, but if I had to choose, I'd axe the streaming and keep the DVDs. I'm undecided what I'm going to be doing right now, but if they mess with the prices any more I'm gonna drop the streaming service. I can watch things over the internet for free if I really wanted to (including LEGAL ways), it was just a nice convenience that came along with a service I was already paying for. That's about it.

Because the economy is still in the shitter Netflix thinks it wise to stick us fast and hard, so we'll get the bitching out of the way by September and pay up.

I'm with you on this. Despite what everyone has said, entertainment execs make beaucoups of cash, and in this painful economy people's entertainment bills will go up. I don't support greed, and I won't be supporting this.

Hm, my wife and I have been talking about signing up for netflix, but now we're not sure.

Plenty of time to decide and all, but...

Actually, looking back at this, is there anything in the Netflix streaming library that is NOT available on DVD?

The new DVD-only plan will be $7.99. Sure, it's not as cheap as the DVD-plus-streaming plan at $9.99, but keep this in mind:

My wife and I signed up for Netflix in 2005. We signed up for the 1-DVD unlimited plan. Streaming was not available at all. Netflix was a great deal for us. We were paying $9.99 a month. They're still offering the exact same product they did six years ago, but now they're charging substantially less for it, at $7.99.

When I watched it, Witchfinder General was only available on streaming. I believe I've encountered a couple of other movies that were only streamed, like Schwarzenegger's Raw Deal, but I don't know if that is still correct.

y'know I'm starting to notice a pattern here. If you recall I bought my PS3 the week before PSN went down in the whole big fiasco. Then I bought another PS3 last week and put my first one in the bedroom because my wife wanted it MOSTLY for streaming Netflix. Then this.

I don't really know why everyone's flipping out. $16 a month doesn't sound like some painfully unreasonable deal to me.
