What you expect from Resident Evil: Revelations?
Re: What you expect from Resident Evil: Revelations?
When I hear people talk about 'tank' controls (usually complaining about them) it's generally about the games before 4.

While the earlier entries have worse controls, they're still all tank controls. You move forward, back, and turn on the dpad/analog stick. Later entries, like Revelations, let you strafe by either hitting a button or using an alternate control scheme, but they still use tank controls by default.CavZee wrote:When I hear people talk about 'tank' controls (usually complaining about them) it's generally about the games before 4.
The earlier ones were just incredibly bad control wise. Tank controls that were also incredibly slow to respond.

I disagree. Part of the charm of the old games can be attributed to those "bad" controls. Even when the games were new, the controls themselves often heightened the atmosphere - Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a great example of this. If you weren't 100% confident in your knowledge of the controls, Nemesis would be in your face and annihilating you while you were still stuck in a corner somewhere. I can't imagine the old games without the tank controls, and think it adds a lot even today.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:While the earlier entries have worse controls, they're still all tank controls. I consider that poor game design. If you need terrible controls in your game to create tension, there's probably not much real atmospheric tension in the first place.
Older. Not wiser.

The controls were necessary because of the pre rendered backgrounds and the constantly switching camera angles. Up meant forwards, always. Just roll your thumb to the left or right of the dpad to change direction. It has little to do with adding to the atmosphere. You also lock on to enemies when you aim so it's really quite easy honestly.

I'm doing a no herb run right now on normal mode and the only fault I found in this sequence was how early they throw you into it. Most players probably aren't used to the pacing in Revelations at this point in the game.Gamerforlife wrote:This may be one of the stupidest, most annoying, most horribly designed things I've ever seen in a game. It's at that point that I made up my mind to never play Resident Evil: Revelations again. Only an RE game could deliver something this ridiculous
At no point during this garbage can you move your character, and the only weapon you are allowed to use against these fifty thousand, ridiculously fast moving wolves is your pathetic pea shooter handgun. And as the video shows, your partner doesn't do jack to help you. Reminds me of how useless Sheva was in Resident Evil 5. The stupid decoy bombs don't even help since you're not given enough to get you through the whole fight. Even if you beat this part, you'll have taken tons of cheap hits and come close to death before you do
This is pure garbage and whoever designed it deserves a swift kick in the nuts. Oh, and that stupid, eye rolling "my sweet ass" line from your bimbo partner just makes me hate this even more. I think I officially hate Resident Evil games now
The game is designed around stages. Jill's gameplay sections are survival horror. The other characters are almost action shooting galleries. What is common between the two is that these stages usually revolve around smaller sequences that lead up to a boss moment. You have to manage your equipment properly if you hope to make it without herb spamming. That's if you make it at all.
The sequence you are so upset with is actually set up well. The entire level showers you with handgun ammo and B.O.W. decoy grenades leading up to that point. When any character is knocked down, they are forced to use their handgun. The handgun's rate of fire doubles when you are on your ass, making it possible to hose down waves of enemies. Just toss a B.O.W. decoy and shoot some wolves.
I will admit, I had to step away from the game for a bit to rethink, but that section pales in comparison to some of the later stages where they throw waves of hunters at you from all angles. And you are still fully mobile in those sequences.

Well, it added to the atmosphere for meCavZee wrote:The controls were necessary because of the pre rendered backgrounds and the constantly switching camera angles. Up meant forwards, always. Like it or not, those are the controls that are a part of the original games, and will always be remembered by the original fans. The diehards and purists (like me) wouldn't have it any other way, and in my opinion, those controls are an integral part of what makes a good Resident Evil game. I'm sure my opinion isn't the mainstream one...but since I'm the one playing, I couldn't care less.

I'm with you there for sure. I can understand if someone doesn't particularly like it, especially if they were to play a survival horror game of that era for the first time nowadays. But the controls are the best possible method the designers could have come up with for the game they created.

Let me know if you guys want to play Raid Mode. I'm trying to get more infection missions and higher level weapons. I seem to have stalled at the moment. Everything I get that's high level doesn't seem to have more than 3 slots.
Re: What you expect from Resident Evil: Revelations?
I never played any multiplayer for it on the 3DS. I was probably going to put some time into it on the console version but I can't decide if I'm going to get it right away or wait for it to drop in price a bit.
